Not many may agree, but Titanfall 2 is a hit, even if it didn't have a blasting release. A year after its release, the player base increased significantly. The movement system seems quite seamless, the fighting is quick and exciting, and the single-player mission is among the best ever produced. Titanfall fans have been hoping for a third installment in the series for years; now, there are whispers it could indeed appear sooner.

According to two well-known Apex Legends leakers, Respect Entertainment is covertly developing Titanfall 3 with a full release scheduled for 2026. Some even claim we might have our first look as early as next year at The Game Awards in 2025. One of the leakers, Yorotsuki, joked on April Fool's Day, saying something like, "It's fun to drop truths while pretending it's a prank. But yeah, Titanfall 3 is real." He also mentioned chatting about a secret Respawn project on Discord back in late 2024. Still, another leaker supported this evidence by posting what seems like the game's logo, thus confirming Yorotsuki's leak.

Indeed, leaks are always to be taken with caution, since in 2023, there was also a rumor about the Titanfall 3 reveal happening, which didn't happen. At the time, however, these statements corresponded to previous rumors that Respawn was working on something different in the Titanfall world, not meant to be Titanfall 3. Though Respawn officially said no to a third game back in 2021, if the rumors are true, it seems they have reversed their stance.

Titanfall 2 became popular because of its parkour mechanics, gunplay, and general gameplay flow. Its combination of strategy and gameplay mechanics sets it apart from other games. Simply imagine how Titanfall 3 could improve them. Though released in 2016, Titanfall 2's multiplayer still remains strong. A new game with modern changes will not only make the current player base happy but also draw new gamers. Not to mention that the story mode in Titanfall 2 was unforgettable. If Titanfall 3 can match or even exceed that narrative quality, we are in for quite a treat.

A studio with titles like the Star Wars Jedi series (Respawn is also targeting to release Star Wars Jedi 3 in 2027) and Apex Legends in its portfolio doesn't have to prove itself. Yes, the launch of Titanfall 2 didn't go as expected, but it wasn't the game's fault—it was EA who made the wrong marketing decisions and poor launch timing. Originally, they put it along with Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, two behemoths in the video game industry. EA also hardly promoted Titanfall 2 and provided it no post-launch assistance. Contrast this with modern video games, in which developers regularly add and expand material. The game had no hope initially.

The first Titanfall was mainly multiplayer-focused, so some players, assuming Titanfall 2 would be the same, missed it completely. They failed to participate in one of the greatest advertisements ever run. Respawn released Apex Legends in 2019, which exploded almost overnight and took all the attention. Titanfall 2 was sadly swept away. Nevertheless, Titanfall 2 ultimately got a broad appeal not because of EA's marketing campaigns but because of the players' word of mouth. It is now widely respected, and there is a great need for a follow-up, at least for the current player base.

Should Titanfall 3 actually be released? Yes, definitely. Not just for the current player base, but the first-person shooter genre needs a facelift. However, the decision lies mostly in EA's hands since DICE is already working on Battlefield 6, and the gameplay leaks revealed major changes. It's up to EA to decide whether to launch two FPS games in the same year or push Titanfall 3 into a 2027 release, if not mid or late 2026, since EA has already confirmed that Battlefield 6 will launch before March 2026.
