Piccolo Studio, a small game development studio from Barcelona, Spain, is releasing their next creation, After Us, into the world on May 23, 2023. Piccolo Studio already had a running start with their release of Arise: A Simple Story in 2019, the name is literal because the story is simple but well worth the journey it takes you on. Piccolo Studio is still living up to their original motto, they don’t make games, they craft them, and the meaning behind that isn’t hard to see.

In After Us, you play as Gaia in a twisted surreal version of Earth in a distant future. Humans have drained just about all forms of life from the planet, leaving behind a broken-down shell of what was once brimming with life. You, as Gaia, have been brought to the world to explore the world, breathe new life into it and salvage the souls of extinct animals while avoiding those who would snuff you out or, worse, exploit you.

As seen in the recently released gameplay video, After Us isn’t like your everyday platformer nor does it fit into a specific genre. After Us takes it a step further by breaking all the rules to bring you a beautifully crafted world touching on real life problems, all visualized and waiting to be explored. But baring Piccolo Studio’s previous release in mind, the story will in all likelihood be just as captivating as the world you explore.

After Us is the result of environmental artists having free roam to create as they please, and they certainly did deliver. They’ve created a world that’s broken, lifeless and in dire need of new life. With debris and garbage everywhere, cables and destroyed forests, and Gaia being a small Nymph. You’ll have a massive task to undertake, discover what happened and navigate your way through the labyrinth-like world decimated by human impact.

After Us will be released on 23 May 2023 on PC, Xbox Series S|X and PlayStation 5.
