The "One Dollar Short" achievement requires you to finish with exactly 29 gold, which can be challenging with higher-level Kings of Greed due to additional gold-generating perks.

This method works with low-level Kings of Greed and focuses on precise gold management through strategic gameplay.

Perk Selection

You can only pick the perk that gives you 50 gold when you lose a life.  You can pick perks that make troops or towers better, but stay away from perks that give you extra gold or make more gold.

Initial Setup

Start your run and drop a card into the Well to begin enemy attacks. Focus on killing exactly one enemy troop using the Stronghold attack to gain 1 gold from the defeated enemy.

Allow the remaining enemy troops to reach your Stronghold, which will trigger the life loss and grant you 50 gold from your selected perk.

Mid-Game Strategy

You will receive 9 gold at the end of each year, but this amount does not affect your final total for the achievement.

Continue playing until you reach the point where you need to kill 8 more enemy troops using Stronghold attacks.

You can now deploy towers and troops to survive until year 10, but avoid using any cards that generate additional gold.

Final Phase

When you get to year 10, you need to do exactly 5 rerolls to meet the standards for the award. It takes gold to reroll, which helps you get the exact 29 gold you need for the "One Dollar Short" title.
