ARK Survival Ascended Guide | How to Tame and Use Gloon Full Taming Guide (Lost Colony)

The Gloon is a shoulder companion found in ARK: Survival Ascended’s Lost Colony expansion. Taming one requires dealing with the Revenants surrounding it, disabling its glowing eyes, and then feeding it while it is close to the ground. Once tamed, the Gloon provides several combat and exploration abilities, including Eyebeam, Mesmerize, Necrotic Mark, Camo, lighting, and Slowfall.

Find a Gloon

Gloons can be encountered around the purple-corrupted areas of the Lost Colony map. They usually float above the ground with Revenants nearby, so prepare a strong ranged weapon before approaching.

Place Basic Kibble or suitable Aberrant Mushrooms in the final slot of your hotbar before beginning the tame.

Kill the Revenants

Approach while crouched so the Gloon does not detect you. Use a ranged weapon to kill the Revenants surrounding it before trying to disable the creature.

More Revenants might spawn while you’re taming, so be sure to stay crouched and clear them when you need to.

Shoot the Gloon’s Eyes

Once the nearby Revenants are dead, aim directly at the Gloon’s large glowing eyes. Shoot the eyes individually with a ranged weapon. Each successful hit causes it to lose altitude.

Avoid deliberately shooting its body. Continue targeting the eyes until they stop glowing and the Gloon descends close enough to the ground to be fed.

Feed and Tame the Gloon

Approach the grounded Gloon and use the food placed in the final hotbar slot to perform the passive feed.

If one feeding is not enough, it will rise into the air again, and its eyes will recharge. Stay crouched, kill any newly spawned Revenants, shoot the glowing eyes again, and perform another passive feed. Repeat this cycle until the tame finishes.

Use the Gloon as a Weapon

After taming, pick up the Gloon and carry it on your shoulder. The Gloon Weapon becomes available from your inventory and can be placed on the hotbar.

Its default Eyebeam fires a damaging laser and consumes the Gloon’s charge capacity. You can switch weapon modes to Mesmerize or Necrotic Mark.

Mesmerize stops a targeted creature’s aggression temporarily and can help control nearby threats. Necrotic Mark marks a target so nearby wild creatures become aggressive toward it, making it useful for redirecting enemies.

Use Camo, Light, and Slowfall

While the Gloon is on your shoulder, its radial options provide additional utility. Camo prevents wild creatures from attacking you unless provoked. Its adjustable light can light up caves and other dark places.

Slowfall reduces your falling speed while the Gloon is carried on your shoulder, allowing you to descend safely from heights with greatly reduced fall damage.

Once the Revenants are cleared and the Gloon’s glowing eyes are repeatedly disabled, you can passively tame it and use its combat, camouflage, lighting, and Slowfall abilities.
