The Parrot is a trust-based shoulder pet introduced with the Tides of Fortune content in ARK: Survival Ascended. It cannot be tamed with food, tranquilizers, or a standard passive-taming method. Instead, you must convince it to perch on your shoulder and then earn its trust by collecting treasure, defeating powerful creatures, or completing a Pirate Island Event before the taming timer expires.

Get a Parrot on Your Shoulder

Search the larger islands in the Ocean biome of Genesis: Part 1 to find a wild Parrot. Approach the Parrot carefully and perform an Emote such as Wave or Salute. When it becomes interested, it will fly down and perch on your shoulder.

You then have approximately one hour to complete the tame. The Parrot normally remains attached while you travel, fight, swim, or sail, allowing you to choose the most convenient taming method.

Find Buried Treasure

Searching for Treasure Caches is one of the safest taming methods. Check beaches and shorelines for a Message in a Bottle. These bottles can be difficult to notice because they are small and may blend in with nearby rocks and debris.

Collect the bottle and use the Treasure Map it provides to reveal a Treasure Cache location. The marked destination may be several thousand metres away, so prepare suitable transportation before starting the timer.

Travel to the marked area with a Shovel, dig up the Treasure Cache, and collect its contents while the Parrot is still on your shoulder. You may need to open around three or four caches to finish the tame. Gathering several Messages in a Bottle before approaching a Parrot can reduce the risk of running out of time.

Defeat Alpha or Apex Creatures

The Parrot also gains taming progress when you defeat powerful creatures while carrying it. Suitable targets include Alpha Megalodons, Alpha Mosasaurs, Alpha Tusoteuthis, and other Alpha or Apex Creatures.

This method works best when you already have a strong aquatic mount, combat tame, or upgraded Ship. One kill may not provide enough progress, so continue hunting or combine this method with Treasure Caches until the taming bar is full.

Complete a Pirate Island Event

A Pirate Island Event offers consistent taming progress but requires a capable Ship. Travel to a Lighthouse, begin an event, and select an appropriate difficulty. Gamma is usually the safest option when your main objective is taming the Parrot.

Destroy the Pirate Ships and Artillery Towers surrounding the island. Once you reach land, defeat the Pirates and collect the Dynamite they drop. Place the Dynamite on the marked explosive points, complete the remaining objectives, and defeat the island Boss.

The island will explode after the Boss is defeated, revealing several Treasure Caches. Open the rewards while the Parrot remains on your shoulder. Around three or four caches should normally provide enough progress to finish the tame.

Use the Tamed Parrot

To tame a Parrot, place it on your shoulder with an Emote and fill its trust bar by opening Treasure Caches, defeating powerful creatures, or completing a Pirate Island Event within the time limit.

A tamed Parrot can track valuable targets and loot across Genesis: Part 1. Its Treasure Hunter settings can detect targets such as Coastal Treasure Maps, Supply Drops, Cave Loot Crates, Alpha Creatures, Apex Creatures, and NPC Ships. Nearby tracked targets are marked with an icon, making them easier to locate while exploring or sailing.
