In Assassin's Creed Shadows, recruiting allies is crucial as it helps you in the game by providing unique abilities, improving the strategic gameplay and enriching the story. Getting these allies is not so easy.

How To Recruit Yaya

Once you speak to Tomiko and unlock the Objective Board, complete The Wounded quest that involves the fatherless monk.

Throughout this storyline, you'll encounter several dialogue options that influence Yaya's relationship with you. To maintain a positive relationship, follow her guidance—specifically choosing forgiveness and avoiding violence (e.g., selecting "Killing them isn't justice").

If done correctly, Yaya will appear on the Objective Circle, unlocking her side quest, The Stray Dogs. During this mission, choose the forgiving dialogue options again. After retrieving a lost item for her and chasing down a suspect, select "You need to forgive each other" and then "Let's work together". Yaya will then join your team as an ally.

Note that no new allies will be available after recruiting Yaya until you unlock Yasuke. Once you do, Ibuki and Oni Yori will become available.

How To Recruit Ibuki

Ibuki can be found in the Ega region, specifically in Hijiyama, near Kashiwara Village. Look for an Ambush Interrupted quest marked by a black diamond exclamation point.

This quest is exclusive to Yasuke. During the initial dialogue, select "I have changed". You'll then face a major ambush battle, followed by a cutscene where two characters argue—again, choose "I would exile him".

By completing this, you will unlock Ibuki's questline Homecoming in the League Objective Circle. In this quest, select the option "Fight with us, Kyobei!". Eventually, romantic dialogue choices will appear, such as "You don't have to be alone". Choosing this option will conclude the recruitment of Ibuki.

How To Recruit Oni-Yuri

You find Oni-Yuri in Wakasa at Sotomo Gate, tied to the quest Sweet Lies. To recruit her, always give her the benefit of the doubt and avoid accusing her, even when evidence suggests guilt. For these conversations, stick with Naoe as she always backs up Oni-Yuri.

Oni-Yuri will move to Amiko Estate after the first meeting. The name of the quest is Sweet Revenge. Your first task is to defeat the samurai. After that, when you speak with Oni-Yuri, respond with 'I understand". Subsequently, select the option “I will show you”. Avoiding Yasuke's dialogue choices is vital, as they will prevent you from recruiting her.

How To Recruit Gennojo

First, finish the Showdown in Sakamoto quest, which will unlock the The Fool questline. Start the quest, and you will meet Gennojo for the first time in the Missing Missive quest. Then do The Twisted Tree quest, where you have to kill Takahashi Inoshichi. During the Lost Honor quest, which is the last quest of the questline, you will meet Gennojo again. Once the mission concludes, he will show up in the league objective circle.

Finish his questline until you get to The Godless of Harvest quest. After killing the samurai named Tatsugoro, Gennojo, you must choose between 'Stop Gennojo' or 'Soothe Gennojo' as he will try to blow up the rice supply. After making your choice, you'll have the opportunity to recruit him as an ally.

How To Recruit Yagoro

Once Yasuke is unlocked, jump into his quests, such as An Education, Lady of Whisperers, and The Lords of Azuchi. Completing these quests will unlock the Wolves and Foxes quest for Naome. In this quest, you have to interact with Hattori Hanzo. Stay calm when interacting with him; you will unlock the Secrets of the Blade quest. Then, you will see 'Unknown Shinobi' in the league objective circle.

To find his quest, you need to go to Harima at Engyoji, where you will find a black exclamation diamond mark stating A Blade in the Dark quest. Start the quest as Naoe to investigate a dead body and find the killer. Lastly, Duel with Yagoro and interact with him to have him as an ally.

How To Recruit Katsuhime

Start the Naginata quest line. After that, you will see Katsuhime on the league table.

Complete all her quests: Letter from Katsuhime, The Tale of Genin, and The Diary of Lady Rokkaku. You have to kill a samurai named Isono Kazumasa, as well as the other guards nearby, in the The Diary of Lady Rokkaku quest before they kill Katsuhime. After that, choose "Yes, join us" to recruit her.
