The Adamantine Forge, located in one of the most popular role-playing games named Baldur's Gate 3, houses one of the most dynamic and puzzle-oriented encounters. This fight against Grym, a challenging construct, requires strategic combat knowledge along with a great understanding of forge dynamics. This difficult encounter will become much easier if you prepare your party and use the environment to your advantage while understanding the boss's abilities.

Preparing for the encounter

Prepare your party for a difficult fight before you enter deep inside the Adamantine Forge. A good long rest preps up your health and replenishes all resources. Grym hits with very serious fire and bludgeoning; hence, it is good to have items with fire resistance or spells like Resist Energy in your arsenal- either of them would drastically reduce incoming damage.

Adding more abilities enabling better mobility and positioning, such as Misty Step or Dash, will help you move around the forge. Make sure your party has a mix of fighters who can attack from both a distance and at close melee range, depending on the needs of the fight.

To activate the forge, you'll also want Mithral Ore, which you'll find in the Grymforge zone. Once the beast is dead, snag the ore and a mold to make a powerful Adamantine piece of equipment. When you're ready to proceed, head down to the forge itself.

Master the Forge Mechanic

Adamantine Forge isn't just the battlefield- it's also key to ending Grym forever. That central platform within the ring of lava flow and forge hammer plays quite a large role in your fight. The forge levers enable you to command molten lava: pouring down, Grym, when heated by the lava, becomes weakened to be finally struck by a hammer-otherwise, you see Grym as one who's almost impervious to ordinary damage. Get used to the positioning of the lava valve control and the hammer control; time and position determine success here.

Confronting Grym

Grym is a giant, hulking construct that is resistant to most forms of crowd control and resistant to a wide range of damages. His principal weakness, however, is that he is superheated. Combat begins by placing a Mithral Ore in the forge and activating the lava valve. The lava released from it overheats the forge and summons Grym, beginning combat.

Success in the fight can only be achieved by luring Grym onto the central platform and superheating him by standing on the molten lava. He will then be vulnerable to the forge hammer. The hammer is activated and deals great damage to him, bypassing his usual defenses. You will have to repeat this several times to defeat Grym.

Tactics To Succeed

The secret to this battle is Grym's movement control and environmental control. In the middle platform, lure Grym with a tanky character or a character who can move around easily, using abilities like Dash and Misty Step to move him around. Grym is weak against hammer hits when he's molten, but otherwise, he's resistant to most damage. Instead, focus your attention on triggering the forge mechanisms as a team.

Grym will inflict significant damage during the fight with his long-range melee attacks and area-of-effect fire skills. Be very careful positioning your party members during this time. Use some crowd control magic, such as Grease or Repelling Blast, to keep Grym on the middle platform. Use healing spells and potions judiciously but aggressively to maintain your party throughout the fight.

The lava valve and forge hammer have cooldowns after activation, meaning you will have to sit through some of Grym's attacks waiting for them to reset; you can reposition, heal up, and prepare for the next cycle in the meantime. The lava discharge-hammer attack timing interaction is critical since each missed opportunity will make the fight longer and more dangerous to your team.

Rewards & Crafting

With Grym down, you can finally utilize the Adamantine Forge to craft a set of powerful equipment. Utilize the forge with the Mithral Ore and Mold you picked up earlier to create an Adamantine piece. These provide special benefits, such as resisting critical hits or increasing the amount of damage dealt, so these are important pieces to round out your team. When combat is finished, you will want to make sure to thoroughly scour around the forge to make sure nothing was missed or any craft opportunity overlooked.
