Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake | Seed Guide
Don’t hoard seeds, and don’t overthink their use. Optimize by playing to each character’s strengths rather than trying to fix weaknesses.

In the majority of role-playing games, most players tend to center their efforts on the course of playing their RPG characters in preparation for the end game. Many think and hope that it will be a rewarding experience in due course. Yet, this may be an exaggeration.
For instance, the age-old advice of hoarding seeds until one has re-classed in order to have taller end stats bears the truth only on this game’s remaking, which is a fallacy. Unlike previous versions, this remake separates stat gains from levels and seeds, meaning only level-based stats are halved during reclassing, not those from seeds.
To illustrate, using a Seed of Strength before reclassing adds a permanent bonus to your stats that persists after reclassing. Looking closely at the stat growths of a Thief, the user’s side-by-side comparison shows him or her getting three additional points from a seed that does not change after reclassing a character. This proves that the belief in saving seeds until after reclassing is untrue; that’s not the way it works in this version.
Another misguided idea is to use seeds to fix character weaknesses, like boosting a Mage's attack stat. While a percentage increase is more noticeable on a lower stat, those points are better spent on characters who use the stat more frequently. For example, a Warrior benefits more from increased strength because they rely on physical attacks, whereas a Mage typically doesn’t. Similarly, Seeds of Defense should go to front-liners who take the most damage, and Seeds of Magic to characters frequently running out of MP.
While distributing Seeds of Life, pay attention to the characters who are most likely to be single-hit KO’d, especially those positioned on the front lines. Most of the time, boosting the survivability of important characters proves to be more useful than distributing the bonus to unimportant ones. Strengthening your core fighters ensures they can take more hits without needing constant healing, making battles smoother overall.
Don’t hoard seeds, and don’t overthink their use. Optimize by playing to each character’s strengths rather than trying to fix weaknesses. However, it’s important to remember that seeds play a minor role in your overall progression. Leveling and strategy far outweigh micro-optimizations, so enjoy the game without stressing about perfect seed usage.
