Light Runic Attacks

Flames of Anguish

The first light runic attack for the Blades of Chaos is Flames of Anguish. You’ll naturally come across this attack during the story in Svartalfheim. It creates a fiery eruption under an enemy, dealing burn damage. While it’s a strong early attack, you might want to swap it out for more versatile options later.

Hades Retribution

Found in the Temple of Light in Alfheim, Hades Retribution is an impressive light runic attack. You plant a bomb on an enemy that detonates after a short delay. When upgraded, you can trigger a full combo by pressing R1 repeatedly, sticking multiple explosives to enemies for higher damage output.

Helios Flare

After your battle with the Einherjar Captain in Vanaheim, you’ll find Helios Flare, a ranged runic attack. It launches an explosive projectile that can be charged for a bigger blast, which is especially effective for single-target enemies. With upgrades, it becomes even more devastating.

Cyclone of Chaos

For better crowd control, head to Midgard and seek out Cyclone of Chaos. This spinning attack swings the Blades of Chaos around Kratos, pushing back nearby enemies. You’ll find this runic attack in a Raider stronghold, easily accessible after defeating the enemies within.

Rampage of the Furies

Your final light runic attack for the Blades is Rampage of the Furies, located in Vanaheim at the Vanir Shrine. This single-target combo delivers a series of powerful hits, ending with a cross slash that pushes enemies back. To find it, follow the path on the right inside the shrine, destroy the vines blocking your way, and claim the chest.

Heavy Runic Attacks

Atlas Eruption

The first heavy runic attack you’re likely to encounter is Atlas Eruption. During your second visit to Svartalfheim, when you’re heading to the mountain with Brok, you’ll come across an unmissable chest containing this attack. It’s an area-of-effect (AOE) ability that grows stronger as you upgrade it, letting you add additional slams by mashing R2.

Tame the Beast

In Helheim, you’ll find the Tame the Beast heavy runic attack, another hard-to-miss chest on your path. This attack uses the Blades of Chaos-like whips, striking down enemies repeatedly with a heavy combo.

Tartarus Rage

If you want a heavy, runic attack earlier in the game, head to another Raider camp in Midgard. After clearing out the enemies, you’ll find Tartarus Rage, a powerful double slam attack. When upgraded, you can hold R2 to strengthen the second slam, making it even more devastating.

Nemean Crush

During the Song of the Sands quest in Alfheim’s Forbidden Sands, you can pick up Nemean Crush. Found in a chest inside a room filled with Grim, this attack knocks enemies back and deals decent burn damage. When upgraded, it adds AOE explosions, making it effective against groups of weaker foes.

Meteoric Slam

Arguably the most powerful and spectacular heavy runic attack for the Blades, Meteoric Slam summons a rain of fire upon enemies in a massive AOE. To unlock it, you’ll need to hunt down 38 of Odin’s Ravens to open the chest containing this mighty attack.
