God of War Ragnarök | How to Fully Upgrade the Draupnir Spear

Here's how you can max out the Draupnir Spear in God of War Ragnarök

Game Guide by Nine_toes on  Oct 20, 2024

The Draupnir Spear is a brand-new weapon added to God of War Ragnarök. It’s pretty strong, but when you first get your hands on it, it’s nowhere near its full potential. To have the most fun with the Draupnir Spear, you’ll need to upgrade it quite a bit, and if you love this weapon, you want to max it out.

To do this, you need to collect all the Gale Flames scattered across the realms. Doing this early will boost your overall level since the spear scales with your gear.

First Gale Flame

The first Gale Flame comes automatically as part of the main story, but the next one requires a bit of exploration. Head to Vanaheim’s Plains, a hidden area you can reach after completing the “Scent of Survival” favor. This quest becomes available during the story mission “Creatures of Prophecy.” Afterward, Helka will lead you to the Western Veiled Woods in Vanaheim, which will eventually bring you to the crater.

Once you’re in the crater, use one of the nearby alters to switch the time to night. This will allow you to spot glowing gazelles being attacked by Wisps. To free the gazelles, shoot a purple arrow at the wisps, then use the Blades of Chaos’ heavy ranged attack to burn them off. After you free all three gazelles, you’ll encounter a Flame Phantom boss. Defeat it to collect the Gale Flame.

Second Gale Flame

Next, head to the Jarnsmida Pitmines in Svartalfheim. Here, you’ll face two Berserkers, Svipdagr the Cold and Bodvar the Fierce. These guys are pretty difficult to beat, so make sure you’re prepared. Once you defeat them, you’ll be rewarded with another Gale Flame.

If you don’t already have the Mystic Gateway here, you’ll need to take a raft from the Wetlands over to the Pitmines. Be sure to use the swipe navigation feature in your settings to make getting around easier.

Final Gale Flame

The final upgrade for the Draupnir Spear involves a bit more work. After completing the ninth mission on the main path, “The Word of Fate,” you’ll unlock a favor called “The Lost Lindwyrms.” This quest tasks you with finding six Lindwyrms scattered across the realms and returning them to Ratatoskr at Sindri’s House. Each Lindwyrm you return will give you a Gale Spark, and after collecting all six, they’ll form a Gale Flame for your spear.

Where To Find All 6 Lindwyrms:

Svartalfheim: The Forge – The first Lindwyrm is at the top of the Forge. Use the Draupnir Spear to create a path, allowing you to reach the Yggdrasil Rift and pull out the baby Lindwyrm.

Svartalfheim: Albrech Hollow – The next Lindwyrm is all the way across the map at Albrech Hollow, which you can reach from Dragon Beach. Climb the rafters, toss your spear into the wooden beam, and follow the path until you reach another Rift containing the Lindwyrm.

Svartalfheim: Alberich Island – Head to the top of the map, past a Berserker fight and a Nornir chest. Toss your spear into the wall to climb up to the next Rift where the Lindwyrm is hiding.

Svartalfheim: The Applecore – If you’ve unlocked the Mystic Gateway here, just run straight ahead to the Yggdrasil Rift and snag the fourth Lindwyrm.

Vanaheim: The Plains – The fifth Lindwyrm is in Vanaheim, in a hidden section of the Plains. After defeating a dragon nearby, you’ll find the Rift containing the Lindwyrm.

Vanaheim: The Plains (Mystic Gateway) – For the last Lindwyrm, head under the arches near the Mystic Gateway in the Plains. Just around the corner, you’ll find the final Rift.

Finish the Upgrade

Once you’ve collected all six Gale Sparks, head back to Sindri’s House and give the Lindwyrms to Ratatoskr. This will give you the final Gale Flame, allowing you to upgrade the Draupnir Spear to level 9.
