Choosing the right gear dramatically shapes power spikes in Puzzle Quest Immortal. Certain weapons and trinkets provide consistent, scalable damage or alternative win conditions that fit a wide range of builds. This guide keeps the original evaluations intact while presenting clear acquisition notes and usage context so you can slot the strongest options into your loadout with confidence.
Best Weapons

The Darkblade, Frostblade, and Flameblade can all be bought in the shop; the prices are 980 gold for Darkblade with level 7 or higher in Cunning required, 1950 gold for Frostblade with level 10 or higher in Water Mastery required, and 1975 gold for Flameblade with level 10 or higher in Fire Mastery required.
Eric’s Bow (when dealing 3 or more skull damage, add +1 with an additional +1 for every 8 of your levels), Dragonslayer (adds +6 to damage whenever you do 3 or more damage), and Dragontooth (adds +7 to damage whenever you do 6 or more damage) all work similarly by giving a flat but solid increase to your damage.
They cannot go as high as weapons with variable output, but in exchange they are much more consistent, always adding the same damage. These are very good weapons for heroes that don’t focus on particular skills and that want a fixed and consistent amount of extra damage without having to worry about how to maximize the weapon effect.
Eric’s Bow is the best among the three but requires a high level hero for that, adding +6 at level 40, +7 at level 48, and +8 at level 56. Choosing Dragontooth or Dragonslayer depends on your Battle level; at level +20 you will be dealing 6 damage with a 3-skull match, so Dragontooth will be better, otherwise you should go with Dragonslayer.

Eric’s Bow can be obtained early on as a reward from Side Quest 1.5 Father and Son in Bartonia, while Dragontooth and Dragonslayer are forged using the Rune of Dragons and either the Rune of Axes for the former or the Rune of Swords for the latter, and you can add whichever power rune you like most for the secondary effect.
The Blackstaff (when dealing 3 or more skull damage, add +4 for each of your colored mana that are full) is similar to the Collar, although weaker, and has the potential to add a lot of damage to your hits, up to +16 damage; however, it needs some work to reach that and it conflicts with using spells.
It clearly has a lot of potential but needs help to fully unlock it; it works best in builds with high mana generation, and using it together with Dragonhorn is highly recommended, and it suits builds that don’t rely much on spells, making it only worth using if you are getting +8 damage consistently.
You can check the generic build that centers on this gear item for a full mana approach, and it can be bought in the shop for 1430 gold at hero level 10 or higher.

Jarl’s Hammer (deal 2 damage to your enemy when you earn 2 or more blue mana) grants an alternative win condition by winning through earning mana. It can be really powerful but requires a dedicated build to get the most out of it.
This is a great weapon for heroes that focus more on earning mana and casting spells than matching skulls, and in the long run it will end up dealing a lot of damage, particularly if you focus on ways to earn blue mana, and you do not have to depend on skulls to benefit from its effects.
It can be obtained as a reward from the Jarl and Jotun Quest 3.5 Brotherly Love in Jarl’s Keep, and there are generic builds centered on this weapon for both board shuffling and defensive play.
Best Trinkets

The Chameleon Ring (become hidden for 3 turns when matching 4- or 5-of-a-kind) is among the strongest trinkets because it ties invisibility to extra-turn matches you naturally chase. It synergizes with gem-conversion and skull-creation strategies that force frequent 4+ matches, making stealth uptime consistent while you set lethal boards or stack damage safely.
