Volcano is an interesting boss to fight in The First Berserker: Khazan, and if you aren’t a bit tactical, you won’t beat him. This method is quite easy for taking down Volcano, and the guide shows a straightforward way to win the battle.
Preparing for the Battle
Before you begin, ensure fire resistance and add water to your damage while ignoring the armor. You are advised to use at least the weight of B.
The First Part of the Boss Fight
In the first part of the boss fight, the boss uses nothing but basic attacks that are heavily telegraphed. You will know exactly which attack is coming and what combination to expect.
If you cannot deflect an attack, make sure you at least block—never let go of the block, even if you think you might have a little time to correct and deflect. Instead, keep it pressed.
Between these attacks, you should use the spear and regular jab attacks. Sometimes, if you feel comfortable, you can use a charged attack because an animation cancel is available.
This section marks the beginning of breaking the boss's defenses. Once you break him, you can continue to land additional damage.
Positioning and Attack Strategies
Observe the boss as he moves; go up and change places with him when he is down. Always make sure you are standing on the very edge of the ledge.
This positions you a little behind him, not to the side or in front of him, because every time he climbs up, he performs an animation where he puts down both of his weapons. Although this is not technically an attack, it can still hit you.
It is important to remember that if you hit him while he is rising, you will only hurt his HP and not his stamina bar. However, this will give you plenty of time to charge a spear triangle attack that will do a lot of damage to his stamina.
Dealing with Fire and Platform Hazards
The boss will sometimes set one of the platforms on fire, which means you can't use it. You need a lot of fire resistance, as he might catch you off guard.
When one of the platforms is on fire, you have two choices: if you are comfortable deflecting and engaging him head-to-head, then do so; if not, bait him, run, and use dodges while running to ensure you are always out of harm's reach.
This tactic will buy you enough time for the platform to fizzle out, so you can repeat the process until he is defeated.
Additional Tips
Even though you might be tempted to use flashy-looking armor, know that such armor is extremely weak. It might give you more speed and help your stamina recharge faster due to a lower load, but you must plan accordingly.
