The Castle Ruins in Tiny Bookshop are steeped in history and adventure. This atmospheric location introduces you to the Pipit Pioneers, a group of young explorers led by Anne and Harper.

Through a series of challenges, you earn badges that reflect your ability to entertain, educate, and support the group’s activities. From scary stories around the campfire to funding new hiking trails, the Castle Ruins combine childhood wonder with community spirit. This guide covers every badge and challenge step-by-step.

A Piece of History

The Castle Ruins unlock in Autumn, when Harper visits your shop and invites you to join the Pipit Pioneers. Your first challenge is to see the ruins, marking the beginning of your adventures there. Exploring the old fort sets the stage for the tasks ahead, where you will guide the Pipits through stories, nature, and discovery.

Campfire Badge

The Pipit Pioneers love spooky tales, and your first badge challenge is to recommend five scary books to them. You can do this by interacting with the Pipits around the campfire or by making recommendations when they browse in your shop while it is set up at the Castle Ruins.

Each recommendation adds to your total until you reach five. Once completed, you have given the Pipits the perfect chilling stories for their campfire nights.

Research Badge

After satisfying their taste for scares, the Pipits need help focusing on more educational pursuits. This badge requires you to recommend five books with a nature or animal theme.

The requests may be more ambiguous than the scary story challenge, but books that combine nature with other themes—such as Pet Sematary, which features animals but remains spooky—can work well.

Once completed, you have shown the Pipits that learning about nature can be just as exciting as ghost stories.

Archaeology Badge

The following badge shifts from recommendations to sales. Anne asks for your help in supporting the Pipits’ archaeological project by selling twelve Fact books at the Castle Ruins.

Unlike the previous challenges, both direct sales and recommendations contribute to this total, providing you with some flexibility. Stock your shop with plenty of Fact titles, and once the quota is met, Anne reveals what the Pipits discovered during their excavation.

Hiking Badge

The final badge is all about community involvement. Anne tasks you with collecting fifty signatures for the Trail Improvement Petition, which she gives you to equip in your shop. Once equipped, you can gather signatures at any location, not just the Castle Ruins.

After collecting enough, return to Anne, and the Pipits celebrate the approval of a new and improved hiking trail, turning what was once a smuggler’s path into a community treasure.

Tips for Success

Always check your inventory before visiting the Castle Ruins. Having scary, animal, or nature-related titles ready ensures smooth progress on the first two badges.

Fact books are essential for the Archaeology Badge, so stock up on them early to avoid delays.

Equip the Trail Improvement Petition immediately to collect signatures across multiple locations, rather than relying solely on visits to the ruins.

Remember that Pipits may give ambiguous requests—be creative in your recommendations, as books can sometimes fit multiple themes.
