When constructing a narrative in a video game you have to consider the writing, characters, animation, lip-syncing, voice-acting, and overall presentation. A scene can be ruined if just 1 of these things is off. In 2019, we had some amazing narratives but only 1 can stand above the rest. Here is NoobFeed's best narrative game of 2019.
Despite the gameplay's polarizing reception, many have had positive things to say about the game's narrative. With an elaborate science-fiction world where life and death have been connected. Resulting in the dead crossing over and causing massive calamity. Called Breach Things or BTs these immortal beings are the stuff of nightmares. Coupled with this new threat is timefall, a special type of rain that causes everything time to accelerate and you have a formula for the end of life.
Death Stranding does a lot of builds this world up. With outstanding performances from framed actors and fantastic voice-acting. The cinematography of Death Stranding is a simply outstanding visual experience and worth the cost to purchase the game alone.
Life is Strange 2 goes to extreme lengths to highlight the bond between brothers Sean and Daniel. Siblings who lost everything after a trigger happy cop killed their father during a difficult situation. Sean must travel to Mexico to avoid the law after his brother Daniel used this god-like powers to destroy everything in the area, including killing the cop who killed their father.
The journey is heartbreaking, with Sean and Daniel going through one difficult situation after another. Testing their bond, trust, and fortitude against increasingly harder circumstances. Some of them having Sean knocking on death's door. Life is Strange 2 doesn't push the narrative genre to new heights but it delivers a very powerful story that doesn't shy away from sensitive topics.
The Outer Worlds provides ample reasons to keep coming back. You can't play this adventure once and experience the entire adventure. There are multiple paths, options to finish tasks, and endings to see. You're given an absolute choice of whether to be a hero, villain, or an idiot during your adventure. This narrative is constantly and no set path, you decide on how things will end.
Taking place during one of the most deadly epidemics in human history A Plague Tale: Innocence has innocent children having to become adults or face death. With hordes of flesh-eating rats waiting in the darkness and English soldiers hunting down protagonists Amicia and Hugo.
Their sibling relationship starts uneasy, with Hugo provided a bulk of attention from their parents because of his illness. But Hugo looks to his sister for strength and that bond is effectively conveyed thanks to their voice-actors powerful performances, great animation, and use of hand-holding. Adding to the story's emotional weight is the lengths Amicia has to go through to protect her brother. Usually involving killing people in horrific ways, such as being eaten alive.
After years of poor to mediocre Star Wars games Respawn Entertainment delivered one worthy of the name. With Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order highlighting the adventure of Cal Kestis. Cal is a survivor but finds himself back into the fight against the Empire. But his journey has more to deal with his personal struggles than the fight against the Empire.
Cal loses touch with the Force and must reclaim his powers but in doing so must face his past. The death of his Jedi master and deciding who he is what he wants.
