Game Science Releasing 2 Black Myth: Wukong DLCs In 2025

While Game Science has trademarked the title Black Myth: Jang Xia, Black Myth Wukong is getting two DLCs before Game Science’s next game.

During The Game Awards 2024, Game Science CEO and Black Myth: Wukong producer Feng Ji stated that they would be working on a Black Myth sequel, which was later rumored to be Black Myth: Jang Xia. While we still don't have any official confirmation on this yet, the news about a Black Myth DLC surfaced during the first week of January.

The news of a Black Myth: Wukong DLC addition has only served to heighten interest since it would supposedly add to the game's already impressive storyline and improve upon its excellent base mechanics. Regardless, Game Science is currently working through certain challenges with Microsoft regarding the launch of Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox Series X in 2025.

Whether Game Science is sorting out issues for an Xbox launch remains to be seen, but they intend to release two DLCs for Black Myth: Wukong prior to the release of their upcoming game. The studio intended for Black Myth: Wukong to have thirteen chapters, but it was only released with six, so it would make sense for the game to have two more DLCs to complete the game’s storyline.

The initial 13-chapter plan seems to be genuine, and two DLCs with three chapters each make proper sense. About 20% of the first DLC progress had already been made because several maps and levels had already been developed since Black Myth: Wukong went through a six-year development nightmare. Game Science initially started developing the game on Unreal Engine 4 in 2018, then switched to Unreal Engine 5 in 2021 before releasing it in 2024.

Naturally, the Jade Emperor and Buddha were the two most prominent figures absent from the game; thus, it’s logical that these were preserved for DLC or maybe the sequel. Given what happened in the game, everyone who played it anticipated more interstellar narrative and at least a level in the Jade Palace.

Bull King boss fights or playable Jade Emperor and Buddha are likely to be included in the upcoming DLCs. The DLCs will follow the Xbox port and physical copies; an announcement is anticipated in the summer of 2025, most likely on August 20. This theory was backed up a few days ago when a source discovered sound files for Nezha, who will play a larger role in their upcoming game, as well as Buddha and the Jade Emperor.

Even now, it would make perfect sense for the DLC to focus on it if the plot continued. In fact, Nezha makes an appearance in the game, albeit only in a cutscene at the end of Chapter 5. Pagoda Be Lee and Prince Nezha are shown being sent to kill the Bull King. His absence from gameplay is unexpected, and like the Jade Emperor and Buddha, he is a strong contender to be a major figure in the DLC or sequel.

There is another possibility that either of the two possible Black Myth: Wukong DLCs will involve Prince Nezha, and each DLC will have three chapters. It’s been rumored that both or at least one DLC teaser will be revealed during the Chinese New Year on January 29, 2025, and the first DLC is anticipated to be on August 20, 2025.

While Game Science has trademarked the title Black Myth: Jang Xia, the good news is that prior to the two DLC releases, Black Myth: Wukong will receive two patches to enhance performance and include new modes, including Boss Rush mode. While everyone has been craving for the PVP, the Boss Rush mode only seems viable right now.

However, I really don’t think Black Myth: Wukong will have the PVP mode any time soon or will have it at all in the coming days. I’m more optimistic about the two DLC releases since the art director of Game Science is now leading a team in Dun Hong and Xiang (Tibet), which are well-known in China for their rich Buddhist cultures.
