Nordisk Games has acquired English video game developers Supermassive Games. The Copenhagen-based investors, themselves a part of the Nordic media group Egmont, bought a 30.7% stake in Supermassive Games in 2021, and with this new, complete, acquisition Supermassive Games become the third studio after Avalanche Studios Group (Just Cause) and MercuryStream (Metroid: Dread) to be wholly owned by Nordisk Games.
Supermassive Games was formed by Pete and Joe Samuels in 2008 and is best known for creating narrative-driven horror titles such as Until Dawn and The Quarry. In a statement, Pete Samuels highlighted that "the security offered by this partnership" would allow Supermassive Games to achieve their "exciting and ambitious growth strategy". His counterpart over at Nordisk Games, CEO Mikkel Weider, explained that the past year has shown them "the amount of talent" at Supermassive Games and "how much potential there is to further develop the kinds of story and narrative-driven games" Supermassive is known for; and, by acquiring 100% of the company, Weider hopes to "continue the great working relationship" that the two companies have.
Supermassive Games' next title is the season one finale of The Dark Pictures Anthology. Titled The Devil In Me, it follows a film crew trapped within a replica of serial killer H.H. Holmes's infamous 'Murder Castle' and releases in Autumn 2022.
