SEGA Gives Permission to Make Sonic Games to their Fans
SEGA isn't Nintendo, they want Sonic fans to make games
News by Grayshadow on Sep 13, 2016
Nintendo is notoriously known for sending out cease-and-desist notices to any fan games based on their IPs. Most notably were AM2R, a remake of Metroid 2 in celebration of the franchise's anniversary, and Pokémon Uranium, which grossed 1.5 million downloads in the first week. SEGA seems to encourage this behavior, giving fans the green light to make Sonic games.
After the release trailer of Green Hill Paradise, a fan-made 3D Sonic game, the fear was that Nintendo would follow suit given their relationship with SEGA. SEGA commented on the issue stating "brb DMCA time. Just kidding. Keep making great stuff, Sonic fans."
