We Happy Few impressed a lot of people at E3 2016 with its story trailer. Back when I wrote the We Happy Few Preview, the game had a pretty good foundation and carried with it a decent amount of promise. Fast forward to today and we've a pretty big blog post from Compulsion Games, detailing the state of We Happy Few as the final Early Access update went live today. The title is now set to launch on April 13, 2018 on PC, Xbox One and PS4. If, at first, it was meant to be a digital-only release, there's now also going to be a physical release which will be published in collaboration with Gearbox Publishing.

"We’re also (breathe now) announcing today that to come to retail, We Happy Few is growing in scope, and is being published by the awesome folks over at Gearbox Publishing.  We’ll be retailing at US$60, although until launch you’ll be able to buy We Happy Few at 15% off (hence the somewhat unusual US$50.99 current price). The justification behind the price increase is rooted in the game growing in scope as more and more people became interested in it. If, initially, it was intended to be a roguelite in an urban setting with a story that was optional, the more people fell in love with its atmosphere and the idea of a narrative in that particular setting, the studio chose to expand it.

"The standards set by that intro (E3 2016) were higher than we were building for the rest of the game, and we realised that we had the same choice facing us: expand, and make the game that most of you were hoping for, or keep it small, stick to our guns, and run the risk of not living up to that expectation."

We Happy Few will also receive post-release DLC (a Season Pass being on the way as well). In the blog post, it was stated that work on DLC will only begin once work on the actual game is complete. Have a look at the full blog post for all the details alongside a trailer and full patch notes for the Life in Technicolour Update.
