Electronic Arts have confirmed that Anthem will not release in 2018, and has been pushed back to 2019.

According to EA, the next game in the Battlefield franchise will be filling EA's late 2018 release slot. With a new Battlefield launching in October of this year. EA stated that it believes Anthem will find more success in a less competitive quarter. For now, Anthem will be the sole major release planned for early 2019, though that’s likely to change as the quarter approaches. Guess they learned their lesson from Titanfall 2's release.

EA's finance chief Black Jorgensen made it clear that this wasn't a delay to the Wall Street Journal, instead "[people] are trying to create a story". Jorgensen is understandably annoyed that the news of Anthem's delay leaked early that caused EA's stock value to drop. Kotaku's Jason Schreier reported earlier last week on the rumor surrounding the delay, causing negative ripples within EA.

Considering that Anthem will be featured as a service instead of a full game the delay could be as a result of the grand scope of the title. As of now, little is known about Anthem's story.

Anthem is in development for Xbox One, PS4, and PC and is planned to release in 2019.
