Inspired by the likes of Dwarf Fortress and Dune, RimWorld is a colony-building indie game made by Ludeon Studios that was first released on PC in 2018. Now, in 2022, Ludeon Studios has partnered with Double Eleven to bring their game to consoles. Double Eleven is an independent British development studio that has previously ported titles including Rust to consoles. RimWorld: Console Edition has been announced for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and is priced at $39.99.
In RimWorld players begin their adventure with three colonists, each with their own personality and skills. Players can explore and change the world around them as they gather materials and build their colony into a new, thriving society. However, alongside the player's own actions, world events can be triggered by one of RimWorld's three AI Storytellers. Cassandra Classic, Phoebe Chillax, and Randy Random can affect the narrative in different ways by "controlling the 'random' events that the world throws at" players, the result of which is a unique adventure with each new playthrough.
RimWorld: Console Edition releases July 29th for PS4 and Xbox One.
