If you've been waiting to finally see GTA 6 in action, that wait is almost over. Rockstar is preparing to give you your biggest look at the game yet with an extended gameplay presentation on August 27. There is one catch, though. The showcase won't be available on YouTube immediately.
Instead, the extended look will debut on Netflix at 3:00 P.M. Eastern Time and remain exclusive there for around six hours before making its way to YouTube later that day. So while you'll eventually be able to watch it for free, anyone wanting to see it the moment it goes live will need access to Netflix.

Rockstar has already released a short teaser for the presentation, but it doesn't reveal much.
It's more of an announcement than an actual preview, leaving you with very little to analyze. That also makes this upcoming showcase feel even more significant, as it looks set to be the first proper deep dive into the game's gameplay systems and features.
That first detailed look has been a long time coming. GTA 6 pre-orders opened with very little gameplay footage available. Most of what you've seen so far has been screenshots, promotional images, and details about the different editions and bonus content rather than actual gameplay. Considering the game launches on November 19, this extended presentation will arrive less than three months before release.
That release schedule might seem unusual for most games, but GTA 6 has never followed the same rules as everyone else. Rockstar has built a reputation where anticipation alone can carry a game for months, and the upcoming presentation only reinforces that idea.
The game has already broken expectations in other ways.
It became the first standard PlayStation 5 release to carry an $80 price tag, while the Ultimate Edition sits at $100. Despite ongoing discussions surrounding pricing and the lack of a physical edition, none of that is expected to slow the game's momentum. GTA 6 is still poised to become one of the biggest game launches ever, regardless of whether players opt for a digital or physical purchase.
There has also been plenty of criticism about how little gameplay Rockstar has shown leading up to launch. Even so, the studio's track record continues to earn it a level of trust that very few developers enjoy. With games like Red Dead Redemption 2 still held in incredibly high regard, many players have remained confident that Rockstar would eventually deliver a substantial gameplay reveal before release.
The Netflix partnership has also become one of the more unusual talking points surrounding the showcase. Having the first extended look locked behind a streaming subscription for several hours isn't something you normally see in the gaming industry.
Even if the exclusivity only lasts six hours, it makes the presentation feel like a major event rather than just another gameplay upload.
Of course, once the video reaches YouTube later that day, it will be available for everyone to watch. Since this is being presented as an extended look instead of a launch trailer, there's little pressure for millions of viewers to see it the instant it premieres. The important part is finally getting a closer look at the game after months of waiting.

Based on how Rockstar is describing the presentation, you can probably expect far more than a quick montage. The extended showcase will likely break down several gameplay mechanics, give you a better look at the open world, offer more insight into the story, introduce additional characters beyond the two protagonists already revealed, and highlight some of the systems that have remained under wraps until now.
The timing also puts the presentation in an interesting spot.
By the end of August, the industry's busy release season is beginning to ramp up, and GTA 6's gameplay reveal lands right as that wave starts. Even with several other major games arriving around the same period, it's difficult to imagine many announcements attracting the same level of attention.
After months of speculation and very limited footage, August 27 finally looks set to deliver the first meaningful look at GTA 6. Whether you watch it on Netflix when it premieres or wait a few hours for the YouTube release, this presentation is shaping up to be the biggest preview of Rockstar's next blockbuster before its November 19 launch.
