KFC Comes to Animal Crossing New Horizons

Video games are no stranger to product placement and brand advertising, with infamous cases like Cup Noodles in Final Fantasy and Mercedes-Benz in Super Mario Maker. Now, KFC Philippines has decided to partner with Animal Crossing New Horizons and has created a Colonel Sanders themed island.

 

Players can dine in the virtual restaurant and purchase KFC products. They can also interact with a Colonel Sanders avatar, and will be given coupon codes valid within the Philippines. Those who venture out of the restaurant can further explore the island and discover the Colonel’s secret hideaways, including where the 11 herbs and spices are stored.

Despite KFCs popularity around the world, the business struggles in the Philippines with brands like Jollibee and McDonalds encroaching on the fried chicken market. A weird video game promotion is very much in their wheelhouse, as the company also recently announced a bizarre ad featuring a KFConsole without further elaboration.
