Star Wars Jedi 3 Marketing Could Begin Ahead of 2027 Launch

An insider report suggests marketing may begin soon, while a larger time jump, expanded Force abilities, and Cal Kestis’ final chapter could shape Respawn's next game.

Star Wars Jedi 3 could be closer to a reveal than expected, with a new insider claim pointing toward marketing beginning soon and a potential release sometime in 2027. That would put the next chapter of Cal Kestis' story on a much more believable schedule after earlier expectations for a 2026 launch failed to materialize.

The latest information comes from a Star Wars insider who recently discussed the franchise's 2027 projects. Alongside the 50th-anniversary re-release, Starfighter, Ahsoka Season 2, Maul Season 2, and other projects, the insider suggested that Star Wars Jedi 3 could also be part of the year.

When asked why the third game hadn't appeared yet, the insider said marketing could start soon, though they admitted it had been some time since they last checked the project closely. That doesn't confirm anything, but the timing lines up with other information surrounding the game.

Earlier this year, there was speculation that Star Wars Jedi 3 could launch in 2026, potentially following a reveal around the summer showcase period.

That window has now passed, making 2027 a much more reasonable possibility based on the development signs available. Respawn has continued working on the game while posting positions connected to the Star Wars Jedi team. Those roles have covered areas including environments, sound, and narrative design.

One senior environment artist listing specifically referred to creating new assets and levels through Unreal Engine workflows. That suggests development was still active across important parts of the game rather than the project simply being close to release.

The development timeline also supports a later Star Wars Jedi 3 launch. Fallen Order came out in November 2019, and Survivor followed in April 2023, so fans waited about three and a half years between them. If the next game arrives during 2027, the wait would be around four years or longer.

For a larger sequel that is also closing out a trilogy, that is a substantial but understandable development period. Another major difference this time. Stig Asmussen, who directed both previous games, is no longer at Respawn after leaving to establish his own studio.

That means the trilogy's final chapter is being developed without the person who led the first two installments.

Vince Zampella, who was also important to Respawn’s culture and development process, has also passed away. Those changes add another layer to producing the finale. The stakes around Star Wars Jedi 3 are especially high because EA has confirmed that this will be the final chapter of Cal Kestis’ story in the series.

Fallen Order introduced Cal, Survivor pushed him into a much more complicated position, and the third game now has to bring that journey to a conclusion. The story cannot simply leave major parts of Cal’s future unresolved for another mainline sequel.

By the end of Survivor, Cal is considerably more experienced and powerful, but he is also dealing with grief, anger, and a growing connection to the dark side. Tanalorr gives him something he has not really had before: a larger purpose. The planet could become a refuge for people escaping the Empire, and Star Wars Jedi 3 could explore what happens after Cal spends years trying to build that haven.

That possibility connects directly to another reported detail. One insider previously claimed that Cal will be significantly older in the next game, with a larger time jump planned. The information was already around a year old when it was discussed, so development plans could have changed. Still, another major time jump would fit the trilogy's structure.

There was already a five-year jump between Fallen Order and Survivor, and it helped make the sequel feel meaningfully different.

Repeating that approach could allow Cal to return after years of experience instead of picking up immediately after the previous game. You could see a version of Cal who has spent years on Tanalorr, developed his abilities further, and potentially become something close to a Jedi Master.

A longer time jump could also bring the story closer to the original trilogy era. Cal has already survived encounters with Inquisitors and Darth Vader, so his continued existence raises an obvious timeline issue that the finale could finally address.

That does not mean familiar characters need to appear, but the game could establish where Cal and his allies stand during the events of the original trilogy. Star Wars Jedi 3's combat should evolve alongside Cal. Survivor already expanded the system with single-blade, double-bladed, and dual-wield options, so the next step does not necessarily need to be a pile of entirely new stances.

Instead, the existing systems could become deeper. A more experienced Cal should also retain his abilities rather than beginning the game powerless and spending hours rebuilding the same skill set. The Force could get a particularly large upgrade.

Cal could chain abilities, use more advanced powers, and face enemies that can counter specific techniques.

That would encourage you to switch approaches in battle instead of relying on one dominant option. Since this is supposed to be the end of the trilogy, Respawn has less reason to hold major mechanics back for a future sequel. Star Wars Jedi 3’s world should grow as well, but without losing the handcrafted exploration that defined the series.

Fallen Order was relatively contained, while Survivor expanded the scale considerably. A third game could continue that progression through several large planets and smaller focused locations. Turning the entire experience into a huge open world packed with icons and repetitive activities would work against the Metroidvania structure that makes exploration satisfying.

That structure could remain central. You might see an inaccessible area, unlock an ability much later, and then return to discover an entirely new section. With Cal older and more capable, those environments could also feel more alive, reflecting the communities and conflicts that developed during the time jump.

In Star Wars Jedi 3, the darker side of Cal's story could become even more important. Survivor showed that he was willing to draw on anger and darker Force abilities while dealing with loss. After years of fighting, Cal might come back harder and colder than before. That doesn't mean the game has to turn him into a villain, but the ending has room to show how all that time at war has changed him.

The ending could also carry more weight than a typical sequel conclusion.

Not every character necessarily needs to survive, although killing Cal simply for shock value could undermine the story. The more important point is that the finale should feel meaningful for him, rather than leaving every possibility open for another project.

Star Wars Jedi 3 may still not be the last time Cal's story continues elsewhere. A Lucasfilm representative said more Cal stories are planned, without specifying whether they'll appear in games, books, shows, or films. Cameron Monaghan already plays Cal, so a live-action appearance is possible in the wider franchise. That makes Respawn's conclusion to his game story even more significant.

As for the Jedi 3 release date, late 2027 fits the current picture, with October or November as possible windows. A delay into 2028 would also remain plausible if development requires more time, especially after the technical problems that affected Survivor.

For the Star Wars Jedi 3 reveal, the timing around the Jedi 3 release date makes The Game Awards in December a logical major stage if marketing is about to begin. If nothing happens there, Star Wars Celebration in 2027 would provide another obvious opportunity for a first teaser. Neither event has been confirmed for the game, but both fit the broader timeline being discussed around the Jedi 3 release date.

For now, the 2027 release window remains unconfirmed, and the marketing claim should be treated as an insider report rather than an announcement. Still, the longer development cycle, continued hiring, reported time jump, and Cal's confirmed role as the trilogy's final protagonist all point toward a game that is taking its time. If the next Star Wars Jedi 3 reveal does arrive, it could finally show how Respawn plans to close Cal Kestis’ story.
