Here's a guide on all faults and how to complete them in Control Resonant.

Faults are strange dimensional rifts scattered throughout Control Resonant. These areas are closely connected to Dylan's search for Jesse and often contain some of the game's most important traversal sequences. Completing the main Faults also unlocks abilities that allow you to reach previously inaccessible areas of Manhattan.

Control-Resonant-7

There are five major Faults to complete throughout the game. While some are encountered automatically during the story, others require you to explore specific areas and follow visions of Jesse.

All Faults in Control Resonant

The five Faults are:

  • Downtown Fault – Encountered during the opening section of the game.
  • Incursion Fault – Found in the West Incursion Zone and rewards Shift.
  • Subway Fault – Found in the Evacuation Zone and rewards Reach.
  • Underpass Fault – Found on the Island of Orange Pipes and advances the Search for Jesse storyline.
  • Oldest House Fault – Found during The House in Distress and completes the Fault Ritual storyline.

The Incursion and Subway Faults are especially important because their traversal abilities open new routes throughout Manhattan.

Downtown Fault

The first Fault is encountered during the opening portion of the game. You don't need to search for this one, as it is part of the introductory sequence.

Follow the game's objectives until Dylan reaches the Fault. Enter the dimensional area and follow the path through the surreal environment. The sequence introduces you to the game's traversal and Fault mechanics before eventually bringing you back into Manhattan.

Since this Fault is part of the introduction, there is no separate location requirement or optional exploration needed to find it.

Incursion Fault

The Incursion Fault is located in the West Incursion Zone, inside a parking garage.

CONTROL Resonant West incursion Zone Fault Location

Before you can reach the Fault, you'll need to work your way through the surrounding area and obtain the key required to access the garage. The route involves using the House of Mirrors area and its generator to activate the elevator leading toward the upper section.

Once you reach the parking garage:

  • Enter the garage and follow the path downward.
  • Use the gravity-altered route to descend through the area.
  • Continue following the path until you reach the Fault.
  • Enter the Fault and follow the route through the dimensional environment.
  • Complete the ritual and return to Manhattan.

Completing the Incursion Fault rewards you with Shift, a traversal ability that allows Dylan to move across walls. This makes Shift one of the most useful exploration abilities in the game.

Subway Fault

The Subway Fault is located in the Evacuation Zone, inside the subway system.

CONTROL Resonant Evacuation Zone fault location

Head toward Railyard Street Station and follow the vision of Jesse deeper into the tunnels. You'll need to navigate the subway while avoiding passing trains and dealing with enemies along the route.

Follow these steps:

  • Enter the subway station and descend into the tunnels.
  • Avoid the trains while moving through the underground sections.
  • Defeat the Mold enemies blocking your path.
  • Continue deeper into the subway until you reach the Fault entrance.
  • Interact with the TV to enter the Fault.
  • Follow Jesse through the dimensional area.
  • Complete the ritual to obtain Reach.

Reach allows Dylan to grapple toward special Reach Points in the environment. It becomes essential for crossing large gaps and reaching areas that cannot be accessed using normal movement.

Underpass Fault

The Underpass Fault is found on the Island of Orange Pipes in the Underpass. You need Reach before you can properly access the area, making the Subway Fault an important prerequisite.

CONTROL Resonant Underpass fault

Once you're in the Underpass, travel toward The Spire and use Reach Points to cross the floating platforms leading toward the orange-pipe island.

After reaching the island:

  • Activate the Fault fast-travel point.
  • Defeat the Mold enemies around the island.
  • Circle around to the western side of the island.
  • Enter the opening and follow the path inside.
  • Continue through the white-lit room.
  • Cross the gaps and interact with the TV to enter the Fault.
  • Follow the golden path through the memory sequence.
  • Guide the light-projected children through the environment.
  • Reunite young Dylan and Jesse.
  • Help Jesse complete the ritual.

Unlike the earlier Faults, the Underpass Fault does not award another traversal ability. Instead, completing it advances the Jesse storyline and removes a progression block for The House in Distress.

Oldest House Fault

The final major Fault is found inside the Oldest House during the House in Distress mission.

You must complete the Underpass Fault before this section can be completed. Return to the Oldest House and meet Zoe in Executive Research before heading into the Prime Candidate Training area.

After locating the Fault, you'll discover that the area has lost power. You'll need to restore it before you can reach the Main Test Chamber.

Solve the Power Core Puzzle

The Power Core room contains a three-stage puzzle. The objective is to activate the cores in the correct patterns.

Test One:

  • Top-left
  • Top-right
  • Bottom-middle

Test Two:

  • Top-left
  • Top-right
  • Bottom-left
  • Bottom-right

Test Three:

  • Top-middle
  • Middle-left
  • Center
  • Middle-right
  • Bottom-middle

Once all three patterns are completed, the room opens, and you can continue toward the Main Test Chamber.

Complete the Oldest House Ritual

After restoring power, continue through the testing area and deal with the Hiss enemies blocking the route.

Eventually, you'll reach Main Test Chamber V-E2. Interact with the TV to enter the Fault.

Inside, follow the surreal platforming path through the altered Oldest House. Watch your footing carefully, as some platforms can break away when approached. Continue following the path until you reach Jesse.

Interact with Jesse and complete the final ritual to finish the Fault sequence and the House in Distress mission. Completing this final ritual also unlocks the Sibling Reunion trophy/achievement.

What Do You Get for Completing Faults?

The biggest rewards from the early Faults are traversal abilities:

  • Incursion Fault: Shift
  • Subway Fault: Reach
  • Underpass Fault: Story progression
  • Oldest House Fault: Story progression and the Sibling Reunion trophy/achievement

Shift and Reach are particularly important because they dramatically expand where Dylan can travel throughout Manhattan.

Final Thoughts

Faults are an important part of both Control Resonant's story and exploration. While the first Fault is introduced automatically, completing the Incursion and Subway Faults should be a priority because Shift and Reach open up new traversal options.

The Underpass Fault continues Dylan's search for Jesse, while the Oldest House Fault brings the Fault Ritual storyline to its conclusion. If you're stuck in an area that seems impossible to reach, check whether you have completed the relevant Fault and unlocked the traversal ability required to access it.
