Why isn’t Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox Series X yet?

Black Myth: Wukong has been seemingly breaking every gaming record for good reason, too. The visuals are stunning, and the game is just fun to play. It has been anticipated for years, and it is a wonder how Game Science was able to deliver on the hype. It is a rarity these days to see AAA games live up to the hype they build up prior to release. Take a look at the recent Star Wars Outlaws, for example.

Black Myth: Wukong broke the Steam chart record and has kept doing really well since its release. The game has generated such a great reputation for itself that it has singlehandedly caused PlayStation 5 sales to shoot up. I can even attest to this because even my casual gamer friends have brought up their desire to purchase a PlayStation 5 to be able to play this game, which led me to ask, “Then why not consider the Xbox Series S? It is one of the cheapest entry points to modern gaming, isn’t it?”

Well, it would’ve been an option if the game had been released on the Xbox Series consoles. What’s up with that? There was speculation that perhaps Sony made an exclusivity deal with Game Science to boost their underwhelming current-gen console sales, but that isn’t the case.

It looks like Black Myth: Wukong suffers from a bug known as a memory leak that is causing it to fail the Xbox’s bug detection tests. Those familiar with game development are all too familiar with this bug. It is an unassuming bug that causes games or apps to crash at any moment, but it shows no signs of problems before then.

This was revealed by an Xbox Insider at Gamescom, who also stated that the release of Black Myth: Wukong will have to wait indefinitely until this bug has been dealt with and the studio has been working to fix the problem. Once the bug is squashed, they plan to set a release date for the game, but for now, there is no indication of any possible release dates other than when the game is ready.

It is good to hear that Black Myth: Wukong is nearly ready, but it is a shame Xbox is missing out on sales like this because of a bug. It has been a recent trend for the poor Xbox Series S to take the blame whenever a game is not yet ready for Xbox. That is a shame because I believe the console is only significant for Xbox because of the low price. In contrast, otherwise, the entry point to modern gaming for a casual gamer would be locked behind a steep $500 purchase.

If it were me, I would prioritize the release of Black Myth: Wukong and other future games to both the Xbox Series consoles as it is a big motivating factor to house the games people want to buy a console.
