How to beat the Vodyanoy and the best ways of doing it.

In Deathless, most bosses have gimmicks that might just lose you the game if overlooked. This applies to all the bosses. And through each playthrough, there is no way to avoid them. Each boss also comes with a retinue of followers. They make up the rest of the enemies you face and die as soon as the boss dies. Depending on what part of your run you face the boss on, you will either have one or three normal enemies to fight.
Vodyanoy Attacks & Abilities
Vodyanoi are cruel creatures of the water that command monsters and ride one into battle. They are fairly tanky, and with the allies they come with, they are annoying to take down. His main and only ability is ‘Overseer’, which grants him one stack of vigor every time an ally is damaged. This can scale infinitely, so you’re better not using those spammy 1-2 damage cards.
His attacks, on the other hand, are varied. He can either attack you once or twice in a Double Attack. Luckily, his base attack is low for a boss, but again, it can grow to exponential levels if you let him use his other move. This move is the Ominous Burbling. This move summons an allied Rusalka while also giving all of his allies one stack of strength.
Now, he always comes with a Rusalka, and with his ability to summon more, he effectively has some more abilities you should keep in mind. The primary and main one is the Rusalka’s Disarming Voice, which makes it so that you cannot use attack cards for a turn.
How to Beat the Vodyanoy
The Vodyanoy has the potential to overwhelm you if you don’t deal with his minions and kill the Rusalka that stands behind him. To this end, movement cards are imperative, and you should focus on killing the Rusalka by turn 2 if possible. This is because Rusalka uses her disarming voice first on turn 2.
You should also do the same every time the Vodyanoy summons another Rusalka. Be careful, however; you shouldn’t use too many cards to kill the enemies as every time you deal damage, the Vodyanoy gets armor. Luckily, with some temperance, you can easily make sure he does not do real damage to you. That being said, it is advantageous to lose some health in an effort to just beat him into submission.
