In God Save Birmingham, pottage becomes your primary food source for much of the early game, and it's much more effective than raw food that's strewn about the city. This guide will teach you all you need to know to get it cooking.

God Save Birmingham Guide Selecting Ingredients

Preparing the Pottage Pot

After securing your house, the first thing you should do is organize your storage chest with some cloth scraps and other materials. You will need a metal hook and a pot to make your pottage pot work. If you've moved close to the well, you'll likely find a cabbage patch just outside, and a few more scattered in nearby fields, providing a constant source of ingredients. Also, zombies do not respawn after being killed, so once you've cleared an area, it remains safe to return to.

Collecting ingredients and tools

If you find any ointment while collecting ingredients, take it, it's always useful to have. You'll also need two metal hooks for the pottage pot, carrots, a water pitcher, a spoon, and a skimming ladle, as you will need the ladle to eat the pottage when it is ready.

Constructing the Cooking Stand

Make a pottage cooking stand with rope and a long wooden stick. Prepare a batch of pottage, which requires a considerable amount of water, and collect kindling and start a fire. This fire is only needed to cook for a short time, so it doesn't need to be fed after it has been lit.

Cooking and Eating

Once the fire is burning, add ingredients. Meat will yield a good result, and the more ingredients you add, the more food you will get out of the pot, so feel free to add 3 or 4 pieces at a time for a solid batch. Once it's finished cooking, eat using your skimming ladle. A good batch can raise your hunger stat by a lot in one go, taking you well over half the way to being full.
