The spear is the primary weapon in God Save Birmingham for a long time, and one of the more significant early pickups due to its interaction with the crafting system. This guide will explain where to get it and what you should know about storing it in your kit for the long term.

Clearing the Room Behind the Door

To get there, open the door that leads further into the pantry area, but beware, as a group of zombies awaits on the other side. Instead of breaking the door down, take it apart to maintain control of the fight. Then, employ a leg-breaking technique: don't rush through the doorway, wait for zombies to come through one by one. Take the group out this way, keeping track of your stamina.

Picking Up the Spear

Go deeper into the room and you'll see the Spear. It's your go-to weapon for much of the run and should be kept around for good measure and not thrown away when a better weapon is found. If a spear does break, it does not vanish completely. Rather, it releases a Spearhead. Now go to a workstation, either one that's already in place somewhere in town or one you've built yourself, and you'll be able to make a new spearhead as long as you've reached blacksmithing rank three. Blacksmithing rank seven is required if you want to create a spearhead from raw materials instead of drops.

More to Pick Up

As you're here, pick up any hinges you see, as well as additional food, a wet stone, and any butcher knife or hand knife that you find. These knives will come in handy later on when disassembling armor pieces, so it's not too early to get them.
