Your ability to Dodge in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is an essential aspect of the game. Especially when you are up against difficult enemies like Xelios. It allows you to be aggressive in your playstyle while also being a quick and effective way to not get hit and taken out.
Learning how to trigger the dodge correctly can make or break battles, and it can make them far more efficient during boss fights and tricky enemy waves. This guide will explain how you can utilize the dodge mechanic.
Firstly, to activate the dodge, the enemies need to be present so that you can lock on to them. To lock on to enemies, you'll want to interact with them and lock on to them by pressing ZL on your controller.

Once you're locked on, press B when you feel like it's the appropriate time. Pressing B once will trigger a standard jump, and to perform a dodge, you'll need to double-tap B quickly, whilst also pointing in the direction you want to go in the joystick.
How your dodge behaves will essentially be determined by the directional input that you use:
Pointing the joystick left or right and then double-tapping B will cause you to fast side-dash. Pulling the joystick back will cause you to retreat dodge, creating some space between you and the enemies.
Pushing the joystick forward acts as an aggressive maneuver and a way to quickly close down the gap during combat. Each of the directions can be utilized and chained into attacks or played defensively.
You will be able to differentiate a standard jump from a dodge, as there will be a streak-like vignette pattern, the color of blue when performing a dodge is over a standard jump.
Once properly learned, dodge becomes second nature and a useful aspect throughout the entire campaign. Becoming smooth and rhythmic in combat.
