In SIGNALIS, after beating the first monster, you will encounter a fuse box puzzle in the Paternoster Engine Room. After landing in this portion of the facility, you'll find this puzzle right next to the save room. Once you have the fuse, you can try to solve the riddle. This guide explains how to tackle the problem step by step.

Before solving a puzzle, you have to understand the elements involved.

Fuses and Requirements-

So here, the fuse gives you a value of 120 and another one for 120.

It involves adjusting a voltage setting to 800 volts (top portion) and 230 volts (bottom portion).

Multipliers

  • There are six multipliers.
  • Each one adds a multiplication factor to the numbers.
  • The multiplier values include 2×, 6×, 7×, 3×, 4×, and 8×.
  • The multiplication values may change depending on previous modifications before engaging with the fuse box.
  • Red Attachments (Flat Number Additions)
  • These apply a predetermined amount of voltage to either the top or lower part.
  • A single attachment adds 30 to the lowest section.
  • One attachment adds 80 to the upper part.
  • Horizontal conductors (Flat Number Deductions)
  • These subtract a predetermined amount from the voltage.
  • One conductor subtracts 50 volts.
  • Another conductor subtracts 190 volts.

Unknown variables

Some values in the problem, such as Times T or Times 1, do not have a defined function.

The bottom section has "S's," which are equally unknown in function.

Begin subtraction wherever possible. Since the puzzle starts with an extra voltage, start with subtractions: 

  • Switch on the conductor that takes 50 volts off the upper side. 
  • Then, activate the conductor that takes 190 volts off the lower part. 
  • After doing this:
  • The highest voltage drops to 110 volts.
  • The lower voltage drops to twenty.

Step 2: Power up the lower section. 

In addition, increase the level of voltage in the bottom part since it is too low. 

  • Use the red attachment to add 30 volts to the lower part.
  • Currently, the values are
  • Upper voltage: 60 volts.
  • Low voltage: 50 volts.
  • Step 3: Apply the Correct Multipliers.
  • Select the 7x and 3x multipliers.
  • After applying these:
  • Upper voltage rises to 780 volts.
  • Voltage elevators above 290 volts.

  • Now, just minor modifications to get the final values:
  • Increase 20 volts on the upper section.
  • This makes the upper voltage 800 volts.
  • By decreasing 60 volts in the lower section.
  • This makes the lower voltage 230 volts.

Activating the machines

The puzzle is now complete with both voltages (800 and 230 volts) meeting the specifications, and they can be used to activate the machine.
