S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, the Echo Detector is your starting tool for finding artifacts, but upgrading to the Hilka Detector can greatly improve your artifact hunting. Here's how to get it.
Steps to Get the Hilka Detector
Travel to Sultansk Base
Start in the Lesser Zone near Zalisyssa. Follow the road east, cross a small land bridge, and then head southeast to reach Sultansk, a main base with a bar, private box, vendors, and a guide for fast travel.
Talk to Sultan
Once at Sultansk, speak with Sultan and ask if he has any work for you. This will unlock his quest line, where you can accept the mission to retrieve a briefcase.
Go to the Cargo Ship
After accepting the quest, head east from Sultansk toward the Mysterious Case. Be careful of radiation, anomalies, and enemies as you make your way to the cargo ship. Once there, climb up the ladder, open the hatch, and drop inside to find the Hilka Detector and the briefcase.
Deal with the Briefcase
As you try to leave, a character will demand the briefcase. If you choose not to give it to him, you'll need to fight off a few enemies. After the fight, return to Sultansk and deliver the briefcase for a reward of 3,000 coupons.
Alternative Ways to Obtain the Hilka Detector
You can also acquire the detector in other ways. One method is from a bar vendor in Rostok, and another is by completing a side mission further north in Garbage at the Slag Heap Bar. This mission involves placing Vodka in stashes, and if you visit the correct stash first, you can pick up the Hilka Detector. However, completing this method will fail the mission.
Benefits of the Hilka Detector
Once you equip the Hilka Detector in place of the Echo Detector, you’ll notice a significant difference. The upgraded detector shows numerical values as you approach artifacts, with the number decreasing the closer you get. When the number hits 1, you're right on top of the artifact.
The Hilka Detector has a larger range and makes locating artifacts much easier compared to the Echo Detector. It’s a handy tool for anyone looking to improve their artifact-finding skills in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl.
