Tales of Arise Guide | How to Beat Subsumer
Here's a guide on how to beat the Subsumer in Tales of Arise
Game Guide by Imdeadfrfr on Jun 06, 2026
You finally break into the Astral Energy Convergence Zone, the ultimate climax of your revolutionary journey through the split worlds of Dahna and Rena. At the absolute core of this otherworldly domain, waiting, is the Subsumer, a terrible physical manifestation of Rena’s concentrated dark energy. This is the Great Astral Spirit evolved, the second form, one of the last tests of your tactical endurance before the final battle.

No humanoid lord or giant zeugle has been such a celestial horror; to defeat him, you need to be fully skilled in the art of limb destruction and spatial awareness. This enemy is much more difficult to fight at lower levels, so it is strongly recommended that your characters be at least level fifty-eight before taking him on normal difficulties. To beat this boss you need to be aware of its extremely elemental vulnerabilities, work on your defensive positioning and control your shared resource pools effectively.
Optimize Your Pre-Battle Preparations
If you charge into the final planetary core without properly optimizing your party’s loadouts, you will be crushed. Before you move past the last point of no return, make sure all of your active party members have their highest tier of forged weapons. For the highest base defense, you want to get the ultimate armors inside the Astral Energy Separators. (Alphen's Mumbane Armor, Shionne's Wedding Dress, etc.)
Other than the physical stats, your choice and build of your defensive accessories will determine your overall survival rate against the spirit’s persistent magic. The Subsumer relies so much on dark elemental skills that you're almost forced to equip your whole team with gear that significantly reduces dark damage to survive. Cooking a meal that gives a substantial boost to the party's elemental defense stat will also give a massive safety net during the chaotic later stages of the battle.
Combat Mechanics & Resource Management
The most important tactical discipline to survive this grueling encounter is managing your party's shared pool of Cure Points. Bosses in this game have an unbreakable aura so you can’t just stagger them and launch them into the air for long combos. Its huge area-of-effect spells will inevitably hit you with a heavy chip damage, so you need to know the limits of your healing abilities.
You have to enter the arena with a full inventory of premium recovery consumables, such as Orange Gels and Pineapple Gels, which are specifically for restoring your Cure Points. Spend the rest of your gald on a huge supply of Life Bottles so you can bounce back from any surprise-party wipe scenarios right away, without having to dip into your magical reserves. If you’ve been lucky enough to find any of the rare Omega Elixirs in the lower levels of Rena, this boss fight is a good time to keep them on hand in case of emergencies.
Leveraging the Core Vulnerabilities of the Subsumer
“Subsumer” has a very unique physical structure and elemental profile, necessitating a very specialized and calculated team composition. Both forms of this boss have a severe mathematical weakness to Light and Lightning astral energy. This is a glaring weakness, and basing your active four-person roster around light-attuned spellcasters will send you flying to victory in no time.
Rinwell is the absolute foundation of your offensive strategy, thanks to her unparalleled mastery of advanced radiant magic. You will need to go in and turn off all her non-light element artes manually to make her artificial intelligence more streamlined, so she constantly uses high-tier light spells from a distance. In the meantime, Alphen should rely on single hit, high damage physical artes such as Reigning Slash to effectively bypass the creature’s large armor threshold.
Big Arms and Phase One Dismantling
The Subsumer fight begins immediately, after defeating a few regular enemies in a filler skirmish. When the Subsumer finally appears on the battlefield, it will have huge, glowing weak points right in the middle of both its giant arms. The basic tactical goal here is to put your party's combined offensive pressure entirely on one single arm at a time instead of spreading your damage.

The boss will often try to smash your active fighters by slamming its huge fists right on the arena floor. You can also easily predict this incoming physical hazard by watching the creature slowly pull its arm back before delivering the downward blow. Just roll dodge perfectly in time to avoid the impact radius, and use the brief invulnerability frames to stay in close quarters without taking damage.
Targeted Strikes & Core Breaking Mechanics
Keep hitting the targeted arm with high damage physical combos and light magic. Eventually the integrity of the limb will break. When a weak point is about to break, you’ll see a specific directional pad prompt suddenly flash across your screen. You have to hit the button that corresponds to it right away to trigger a cinematic strike that destroys the massive arm all in one shot.
The moment the first limb is destroyed, you have to change your focus completely to the other arm using the exact same aggressive methodology. The second weak point generally breaks much more quickly than the first, leaving the creature heavily compromised and open to your party’s combined assault. During these critical times, using Alphen’s fiery Boost Attack is a very effective way to quickly break these cores and force prolonged down states.
Black Hole Mystic Arte Remaining
As soon as a limb is destroyed the angry Subsumer will start to charge the destructive signature Mystic Arte. It will invoke a horrifying spell called Black Hole, ripping open a huge gravitational gap right in the center of the battlefield. This huge magical hazard will actively pull your party members toward its center, dealing constant and devastating damage to anyone caught in its pull.
For this period the entire arena floor is an active damage zone, so traditional defensive guarding is completely useless. The best way to survive this onslaught is by spamming your dodge roll while sprinting towards the outer edges of the platform. Immediately after the spell is fully completed, interrupt the action and stabilize heavily wounded characters in the frontline manually using premium healing items and proceed with your attack.
Getting through Phase Two and the Central Core
When you manage to knock out both of its massive arms, the Subsumer will dramatically change its defensive posture and begin the second phase of the duel. Its main vulnerability will shift from its limbs directly down to its base where it will balance precariously low to the ground. This renders the central core insanely accessible for your melee fighters, allowing Alphen to continually land devastating Reigning Slash hits straight onto the body for huge double damage.
During this frantic second half, the entity will often call forth dark astral arte pulses that actively chase your characters around the platform. To stay safe from these homing projectiles, you’ll need to fight in a very mobile style, hopping and running around the perimeter at all times. It’s absolutely vital that you don’t accidentally drag these explosive dark pulses into the path of your AI-controlled friends, as their survival is top priority.
Thorns and Available Treatments
Keep chipping away at its last health bar and the Subsumer will keep casting the next Black Hole spells and wrap itself in defensive magical thorns. Dark energy will constantly erupt around the immediate base of the boss, creating a hazardous zone for melee fighters and making the battlefield visually cluttered. If your main healer is having difficulty keeping up with the incoming area-of-effect damage, consider swapping in Dohalim immediately.

When you have both Dohalim and Shionne out on the field at the same time, you get double the healing ability, forming a very strong defensive safety net for your vanguard. You can temporarily change your AI settings to put your companions on passive to prevent needless deaths in this mad rush. I tell them to spread out and just dodge and heal. So they don't blindly charge into the creature's defensive thorn barriers.
Defeating the Last Elemental Orbs
When the Subsumer's health pool finally falls into the last ten or twenty percent, it will make one last, desperate push to survive. It will suddenly drop a bunch of high level elemental orbs onto the battlefield, imitating the chaotic mechanics from the previous Great Astral Spirit encounter. These floating spheres are particularly nasty, capable of quickly paralyzing your party or firing off highly disruptive elemental beam attacks from a distance.
In this last stretch, your best bet is to ignore these elemental orbs altogether, despite the huge risk they pose to your party's stability. The boss is so close to death that all this will do is prolong the fight and burn your resources. Send all your remaining offensive power, all the light magic you have stored and Boost Attacks of your party to the core of the creature to end the fight.
Winning the Climactic Victory
You just need to be able to put out a constant and overwhelming damage output to the central base and the elemental orbs won't have enough time to wipe out your squad. If you can’t wait for your designated healers to cast their spells, be sure to dispense high-tier gels from your menu and be careful with your own health pool. Your ultimate goal is to keep attacking the main body, dodging only when you are forced to in order to survive incoming attacks.
After draining the last fraction of its health gauge, the celestial entity finally collapses in a spectacular display of dissipating dark energy. Conquering the Subsumer is a monumental milestone that proves your absolute mastery of evasive timing, elemental coordination and party management under extreme duress. Having destroyed this terrible aberration, you are now perfectly placed to face the ultimate sovereign rival awaiting at the extreme end of the game.
