The Outer Worlds 2 Guide | Mysterious Cave

The Mysterious Cave in The Outer Worlds 2 can be found pretty early on in the game, but it doesn’t really act as an area where you can progress, so you will unlock a certain companion quest.

Inside it, there are various research terminals, notes, and clues that hint at various experiments with suggest a hidden puzzle in the cave.

However, to actually progress, you’ll need to recruit Inez. You’ll be able to locate her in Fairfield, inside the town hall, where there will be two mayors.

Speaking to her will activate the quest line, which will include missions that are connected to the mysterious cave.

When the quest line is active, the terminals, clues, and other objects within the cave can be usable, as well as the fast travel.

It’s designed and linked directly to her storyline and gives you a background of her scientific work and experiments. 

The cave has multiple signs to terminals and environmental notes that refer to various experiments and studies of creatures.

The area also requires you to have a higher science skill to interact with various devices, for example, a Level 4 or 5 Science Study Terminal.

Exploring it too early will not make actual progress; advancing in the main story first and then recruiting is essential before you make your way to the cave.

Completing her quest line will also reward you with additional character lore.
