The Rookie’s Reward is a unique weapon in The Outer Worlds 2, which is hidden in your ship, The Incognito.

You’ll find it on the first floor near the workbench inside a locked cabinet; however, the locked cabinet requires you to be Lockpick Level 11 to open, which is pretty tricky to attain early on in The Outer Worlds 2.

Fortunately, there is a way for you to unlock it. This guide will show you how.

In the same room, you’ll notice a bunch of small boxes beside the workbench. Behind it, there will be a hidden switch that turns off the power.

Turning it off will also deactivate the security for the cabinet, allowing you to collect the weapon.

It’s a method that many of the players miss due to its concealed nature, that is, a way that you can get your hands on the cabinet without the Lockpicking skill.

Rookies Reward

The Rookies Reward is not your usual weapon; it grows even more powerful the more you use it. It’s progression-based, and every time you make a successful hit, the amount of damage you will contribute to its experience points, allowing you to level up your weapon over time.

Using it consistently during combat will improve its power, accuracy, and effectiveness.

To track its progression, you can open the inventory and hover over the weapon, where it will show its current stats and how far the nearest upgrade is.

And whenever you do level up using the weapon, the weapon will release a few confetti, notifying you that it has indeed levelled up.

To maximize its potential, you'll want to upgrade and level up the weapon to Level 30. Doing so will also reward you with an achievement, so it’s important that you use it as much as you can.

Whether that be you farming, or fighting and large battles, any bit of progress will contribute to its progression.
