A unique guide for those who are just beginning their journey into the world of Zenless Zone Zero.

If you're new to Zenless Zone Zero, this guide will make sure you’ll be able to navigate through the early stages of the game, get a grip on its mechanics, and make the most out of this chaotic yet thrilling world. I’ll be keeping it simple and give you the need-to-know to get you moving.
Character's Rankings and Positions.
The characters come in A and S rank classes, which are basically synonyms for four-star and five-star characters, respectively, in other genre titles. When you start the game, you will have one free A-rank agent, Corin. There is no reason to undermine him just because he’s an A-rank; he is really powerful, and you will get many of those in free drops when you go deep in the game.
It figures, then, that S-rank agents will be the most powerful characters you have, but it's going to take so much more time and money to build them up. For now, I use my A-rank team in my own gameplay, and I'm just having fun trying to piece together everything that's happening.
Characterization by Trait, Fighting Style
Every character in Zenless Zone Zero fights uniquely. In the game, there are five different attributes: Fire, Electric, Ice, and Physical Ether. You will realize that next to the health bar in enemies is an elemental bar that can be filled up by hitting them with an attribute attack. When it's fully filled up, an anomaly will happen as a result of the used element.
Sometimes, switching between attributes may reset the bar, so be aware. Therefore, it is better to develop teams comprised of members with similar characteristics to achieve enhanced synergy.
Fighting Styles
Characters can choose between five fighting style classes, each of which serves a different role in combat:
- Attack characters are your main method of inflicting damage upon another. Their obvious trait is that they can inflict a large amount of damage and end a fight quite efficiently.
- Anomaly characters are Masters of using elemental anomalies to deal loads of extra damage. They are perfect when you aim to target your opponent’s elemental weakness.
- Stun characters excel at quickly filling up your opponent’s dazed bar and raising overall damage to 200% for your whole team during the stun.
- Support characters are responsible for buffing your team and boosting the overall combat effectiveness.
- Defense characters specialize in reducing the damage taken by your team. You’re going to need them if you aim to stay alive in tougher fights.
Characters are also affiliated with factions, and when working with agents in the same faction, you’ll be granted additional passive perks, which is really crucial to actually play around with if you want to see which team builds work best for you.
Combat Mechanics
There's fast action combat with the possible ways to do strategic maneuvers in different manners, and they involve:
- Dazed Bar: This is below the health gauge of an enemy. Filling up this meter will enable you to stun the enemy, and the damage dealt to them would be high for a considerable period. Use the Stun character and see this meter filling in no time.
- Energy Bar: You have it just below your health bar. When this reaches half or full, it can be used to unleash a special attack, although, of course, the higher the energy bar, the greater the damage.
- Ultimate Points: These points accumulate the more you trigger chain attacks. Once it reaches up to 3,000, that is how you'll be able to unleash the character's Ultimate. The points are shared across the team, so make sure you plan your Ultimate wisely.
- Perfect Assists: If an enemy is attacked, he may flash yellow in a small window of time; switch to other characters during this time, and you will get a perfect assist - now you can launch a devastating follow-up strike.
- Dash Attack: You can attack while dashing, but you have to time the attack button on your controller just right. In addition, some characters are able to deflect projectiles while running, which is useful in minute situations.
The better your understanding of these basics, the better you will have set the ground to understand more advanced battle mechanics.
Game Modes
There are quite a lot of game styles in Zenless Zone Zero that keep things fresh and interesting:
- Storyline and Commissions: These are arranged into three categories: storyline, exploring, and combat commissions. These can be unlocked upon using the Hollow Deep Dive system at home.
- Hollow Zero: Similar to rogue-like tasks, this is another type of game style unlocked at Interknot Level 20 that will challenge you to finish stages while collecting power-ups on your way.
- Shiyu Defense: It is best conceptualized as an advanced type of tower defense mode. You don't have to think about that until later on in the process.
Equipment and Upgrades
The strength of your agents depends on the equipment used. You can equip W-Engines, which are basically weapons, to boost your characters' stats. When choosing weapons, consider the character's combat style.
Disc Drives are artifacts that your characters can equip for various stat boosts. You will be able to unlock these later in the game. You can also improve the levels of the agents using the materials that you obtain by playing the game every day. Remember that their constellations give additional perks.
The Activities of Daily Life and Batteries
The game also offers day-to-day activities in all aspects of trying to make the team tough by engaging in various activities. Photo shoots with kittens, drinking coffee, and eating ramen-all those little things that are so pleasing and, of course, qualify for every day and weekly commissions. In the end, you will receive valuable material.
There is also the Batteries system. These are, so to say, your resource for energy, pretty similar to resin in other games. They are required to be spent to gather different materials needed for character advancement, upgrading one's skills, and altering weapons. They are generated daily.
Exploring the World
Zenless Zone Zero is just really vibrant and full of interactives. You can purchase or recycle W-Engines from the Gadget Store. Use the buffs from Ramen and Coffee Shops to enhance your battle performance.
Officer Mewmew is an NPC that rewards you for various city commissions. You’ll be able to obtain Polychromes, Denny, and character EXP materials upon completing Mewmew’s commission.
