007: First Light Already Facing Unfair Backlash Online

While some valid critiques exist, much of the negativity surrounding Bond's new game seems more like bandwagon hate than fair analysis.

The new 007: First Light game was one of the most talked-about announcements at Sony's recent State of Play event. But while the release of the game was very exciting, it has also caused a surprising amount of negative feedback online, some of which is reasonable and some of which is just plain silly.

It is normal for a game to get criticism when it comes out. 007: First Light got amazing feedback when the game was revealed, but until recently, the game got some backlash.

A few flaws were clear when the gameplay video came out. There were some problems with the frame rate during the airplane scene, the voice acting wasn't consistent, and the high-speed car chase tried to be like Uncharted without quite succeeding. Those are good points. But what happened online afterward went way beyond what was fair criticism.

People who had good things to say about the game on sites like Twitter were often met with dismissive comments and coordinated negativity. Some critics said that the three-minute gunfight scene didn't show Bond's sneakier side, but they didn't take into account that earlier and later parts of the State of Play demo clearly showed Bond's charisma, gadgets, and spying.

A lot of the negative feedback comes from people who only saw small parts, as it does feel like they skipped through the bad parts to comment on the issues with First Light. It's also strange that someone says First Light looks like a 2010 game. As the comment, it doesn't make sense if you have played a lot of games since that time.

If you really think this looks like something from 15 years ago, you're either not looking closely enough or making it sound older than it is. The similarities to Uncharted also made people angry. Some players used the name as an insult, as if the fact that the game combines cinematic action with stealth features automatically makes it dull.

But, as we know, AAA games don't often try new things; most big brands stick to tried-and-true formulas. Even planned blockbusters like GTA 6 will be a lot like the game that came before them, with a few small improvements here and there. The mix of stealth, tools, and big-budget action scenes in Bond movies makes sense for the character, even if the ideas come from other hit movies.

But then again, the reaction seems planned, like a group of negative bees. They say that 007 isn't original, but their criticisms aren't either. They all say the same things over and over. Well, just haters being haters.

In the end, 007: First Light might not completely change the genre, but it also feels like it's too early to say it's not good. What was shown at State of Play showed a strong base: a mix of stealth-based gameplay and explosive set pieces that stay true to James Bond's movie history.

Yes, some technical problems need to be fixed, and performances that could use some work, but that's what you'd expect to be fixed before the release.

I'm not saying it's going to be the best game ever. However, I see hope and something exciting. And while it's okay to be critical, we don't understand the amount of hate we have seen, especially when it's for reasons that don't make sense.

Fans might want to wait to judge First Light until they've seen more of what it has to offer. The game looks like a mix between Hitman and Uncharted. Bond has always been great at finding the right mix between calm espionage and stylish chaos. If the developers can do that, this could be one of the biggest surprises of next year.
