Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 2.21 Adds DLSS 4 Support

More in-depth character development would have been ideal for the Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 2.21.

Cyberpunk is one of the biggest games of this generation, and since its launch, it has received several updates that have significantly improved the gameplay. Since Nvidia's new 50 Series GPUs were announced, given the long-standing collaboration between CDPR and Nvidia, it was anticipated that adjustments to current technology, such as DLSS 4, would be implemented. Which has been added, and the new Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 2.21 is already available for the Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.

After Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 1.62 Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode and NG+ and Patch 1.63, which signaled the Phantom Liberty release, it had been a long time since Cyberpunk 2077 received any significant updates until CDPR released one of the major updates, Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 2.2, last December. The update included character customization, Photo Mode, and several gameplay improvements. The upgrade was accompanied by a new episode of REDstreams, which featured a thorough conversation with the developers regarding the modification.

Later, we learned that Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 2.2 included a number of new features in addition to others that CDPR had not included in the Patch release note. The involvement of Virtuos Games, an outsourcing studio that collaborated with CDPR on Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 2.2, is its most intriguing aspect. This is significant because CDPR had previously declared that Patch 2.1 was the last major patch for Cyberpunk 2077.

Now we are getting another update: For RTX 50 Series GPUs, DLSS 4 with multi-frame generation has been implemented. This feature increases the frame rate by employing AI to produce up to three frames for each conventionally produced frame. It will be enabled when the new GPUs are released on January 30. Additionally, they used DLSSR reconstruction to correct blurring and artifacts on in-game screens. In graphic options, the frame generation field will now correctly reset after resetting the resolution scaling to "off". A number of corrections and enhancements were also made to the new enlarged photo mode, which had many issues, at least in my experience. Fortunately, these problems have been resolved.

Most significantly, they resolved a bug that made the game unstable when we opened photo mode while using wardrobe or stash. Although I haven't directly experienced this, I have seen it brought up in my comments previously. They also resolved some minor problems with controls, camera movement, and character spawning in photo mode, along with occasionally jerky or constrictive camera movement; several of these bugs made scene setup for photos problematic. With the latest patch, everything appears to be much more seamless now.

Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 2.21 also resolved a number of texture and color irregularities for cars that had Crystal Coat applied before moving on to vehicle color personalization. The twin-tone option, added in the most recent patch, was a neat addition, enabling more customized car designs. Additionally, they resolved a problem in which the auto fixer tutorial box that appeared after a car contract was finished lacked an explanation for the spray paint icon. They also fixed minor user interface problems in the Crystal Coat and twin-tone menus.

Another welcome change is that randomizer settings will now be maintained when character creation and customization progress to the "customize attributes" step. The piercing color option was corrected so that it would not be available in character creation after activating piercings if you first chose "None". They also fixed other small character generation difficulties, such as incorrect application of appearance parameters, visual clipping, erratic user interface behavior, issues with functioning following randomizer use, and more.

Regarding console-specific modifications, they resolved a problem where screenshots taken with HDR10 enabled on Xbox displayed blank in the gallery. They also included a popup in the gallery to let players know when screenshot access is restricted because of console privacy settings. On Xbox Series X/S, screenshots removed from the gallery user interface will now be appropriately labeled in the gallery and vanish from occupied spaces upon gallery reopening. Additionally, they rectified a problem where the Xbox Series X's graphics mode would default to "Quality" rather than "Performance".

After meeting with Bennett, they resolved a problem with the "Run This Town" assignment that prevented the normal imprint from being deactivated in specific situations. The "Run This Town" task fixes are a must for any Cyberpunk patch! Additionally, they resolved a number of situations in which Johnny may show up in the passenger seat multiple times while he was already on the scene for specific objectives. They made it more likely that Johnny would show up more frequently.

In Night City, a number of adjustments were made to the behavior of NPCs and vehicles for several minor occurrences. For instance, problems should now be fixed if the AI malfunctions during certain events and a car becomes stuck or fails to trigger correctly. Vendors that were previously noninteractive vendors have been repaired. The problem of voiceovers on TV news channels being either absent or excessively subdued was also addressed. Console gamers had to wait for this patch, but PC users could solve this using mods.

The Quadra Turbo RVTech description was fixed after it inadvertently showed the Quadra Turbo R740's description rather than its own. Additionally, they corrected the main menu's missing "What's New" popup for Patch 2.2. As always, if you're using mods, be aware that until core mods are updated, you won't be able to launch the game. Re-mod the game with a clean installation for optimal effects. Mods should be updated by tomorrow or the end of the day, depending on whether you use mod management. At the time of this release, certain mods might have already been updated.

Cyberpunk 2077 has been kept nicely updated with these patches and enhancements on a regular basis, and this begs one question: Is CDPR advancing Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel 'Project Orion' development while they keep on publishing new patches just how they did it before the Phantom Liberty release DLC release?
