Doom: The Dark Ages Guide | Hebeth Flame Door Puzzle Solution

When you complete the objective Defend Hebeth in chapter 2 of Doom: The Dark Ages, you'll encounter a Flame Door that you must extinguish to pass through the door and complete the mission. 

Locating the Puzzle Area

You'll come across a flame door puzzle about halfway through the level Defend Hebath in Doom: The Dark Ages. This section is easily recognised by a raised area containing much money and a secret item. Your goal is to reach that spot, but the flame door blocks your path.

Entering the Puzzle Zone

First, drop down into the lower area nearby and move towards the left side. You'll see a climbable section—head over there and climb it. At the top, look for a target mechanism and throw your shield at it. Once it's hit, the path will open slightly. From there, either jump directly into the next section or climb your way in, depending on what's easier for you in Doom: The Dark Ages.

 

Inside the Flame Door Area

Once you're inside, you'll be alerted to a detonation risk. You can detonate it, but be cautious—this will not extinguish the fire. The majority of players forget the vital step. Rather than keep going forward, search for a wheel mechanism in the room.

Turning Off the Flames

Locate the wheel and interact with it in Doom: The Dark Ages. Turning this wheel will extinguish the flames blocking your path into the following room. Now that the fire is extinguished, proceed through the door previously guarded by the flame.

Inside this now-accessible room, you'll encounter an enemy. This will be a mini-boss fight.  Defeat him to loot the item he's guarding. Though it may initially seem like a standard collectable, it's actually a Life Sigil. This is essential, especially if you're trying to complete or 100% the level. 

Exit the Puzzle Area

Once you've secured the Life Sigil, head down further and destroy the next barrier to make your way back into the central part of the level. Now, you've fully cleared the puzzle and can continue your Doom: The Dark Ages mission. 

This is a frequently overlooked solution, particularly because of the hidden wheel mechanism. So, be careful while looking for the wheel in Defend Hebeth of Doom: The Dark Ages.
