Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.3 Sparks Debate Over Missed Teasers – Devs Reacted

A harmless Easter egg hinted in Update 2.3 spirals into community backlash, and what might still be hidden in Night City.

Cyberpunk 2077 is back with a bang from CD Projekt Red, and this time, players are really looking forward to it because of all the game-changing changes that are supposed to come out. Fans are a little let down by Patch 2.3, which is officially called the "More to Discover" update.

Cyberpunk 2077's update 2.3 was recently talked about in a story. It was mostly about an unexpected point of disagreement: the makers were upset that fans weren't picking up on some hints and teasers that were hidden in the world of the game. In particular, Paweł Sasko, who is the Associate Game Director for the upcoming Cyberpunk Orion project, told fans to "pay more attention" after a newly added car that was hinted at in a Cyberpunk comic book page was missed.

This Easter egg was even talked about on CD Projekt Red's most recent REDstream, where the features of the 2.3 update were talked about. The developers said that if you looked at the very last page of that comic, you would have seen a teaser picture, which was something they did a long time ago as a small hint.

As Sasko put it, "We wanted to see how much attention you're giving what we're doing in different media." It was interesting to hear that some people were getting it, but he was a little let down that he hadn't seen this particular tease on Reddit.

Some news sources did frame this event negatively, but the bigger picture is important. You can tell Sasko wasn't mean because his tone came across as a joke if you watch the show. The group didn't see it that way, though.

After that, there was a lot of negative feedback online. A lot of fans saw the comment as arrogant or patronizing, as if the developers were saying that the community wasn't paying attention in class. That was the start of the flood.

Some of the answers were very sarcastic:

"Wow, the developer thirst is real." It's like when your girlfriend gets her nails done and gets mad when you don't notice in the first two minutes.

"That game is old." Things have changed. If you think a redesigned car will make everyone go back, you're not awake.

Others also said:

"Oh great, a 10-minute job. Let me restart and work on it for another 100 hours.

"Add more ways to fall in love." Add real things. Then we might care.

But some answers were more common sense. A lot of fans were upset not with the developers but with the update itself. Some people were excited about the patch notes because they said that a few new cars had been added. One person said:

"They made this update sound like a huge deal." Put out streams and hints. We only got some new cars and a short quest, right?"

This way of thinking is true. CDPR has been known to sell mid-sized updates with a lot of force. It's clear why the community thought there would be more, especially after all the hype. Yes, it's clear that developers put work into small things like adding new vehicles or a short task, but for many players who have already spent hundreds of hours in Night City, those changes don't light them up again.

Now, really? He didn't look like he was. Some fans used the word "girlfriend" to compare Sasko to someone who needs a lot of attention, but it seems too strong. He didn't sound angry or unhappy on stream. He seemed to really enjoy the fan ideas and Reddit rumors, and he was just a little surprised that one teaser didn't get much attention.

Indeed, as more comments were added below the original story, many of them became even ruder.

"It wasn't missed." We don't care.

"A Reddit hint? Half of the players don't even use Reddit. Why would we notice it?"

In this case, though, it seems like the usual case of context being lost in internet speech. If you read the quote in a newspaper, it might sound rude. Watch the real video? It sounds like friendly chatter.

People often do this: they take one sentence, make it into a headline, and then tell a story around it. That spin got Sasko a lot of bad press that he doesn't seem to deserve at all. This is where things get interesting. Even with all the noise, Sasko's words do bring up an interesting point: what if this update is missing something?

CDPR is known for adding hints of things to come into the Cyberpunk world through things like secret emails, in-game graffiti, environmental storytelling, and even comic book panels. There are a lot of fans who are wondering: What if the 2.3 update has something more important that nobody has noticed?

The fan idea going around right now is about a casino tease. Some of the signs in the update say things like, "Join the game every Saturday for a big win!" That made people wonder if it had something to do with the long-rumored (but never built) casino in the Westbrook area. With the right hacks and mods, you can get into that building.

What if it's just a tease? Then it fits nicely with the long-form stories that CDPR loves to tell. However, here's the thing: maybe more people would notice these clues if people weren't afraid to post "out-there" ideas. People in the community may not be able to connect the dots because they are afraid of being wrong or "reaching."

Was Sasko's statement a jab that was meant to be passive-aggressive? Or was it a push to tell us to keep thinking, looking, and wondering?

Just to make this point even stronger, here's what Sasko said live—words that most news stories left out:

"I love how thrilled you are about 2.3." I watched every movie you guys made, like all the guesses and stuff. I love how creative you are. That's great. To be honest, having a group that cares is a privilege. We take care of it.

It doesn't sound like they're making fun of fans. That sounds like someone thankful for them. He's not telling people to pay attention to the car. Hey, we put things all over the place for you to find. We thought it would be fun if you caught them. That tone didn't make it into the news, which is a shame. It became something to talk about to get clicks.

Let's be clear: CD Projekt Red has done some bad things. It's likely that they talked about the 2.3 update more than they should have. Fans who were hoping for new romance choices, more endings, or more meaningful gameplay had every reason to be disappointed.

But calling Pawel Sasko an egotist or narcissist? That's not fair. Games would be a lot better if more developers cared and loved their work as much as these do. The man clearly cares about the fans because he watches our videos and reads our ideas. He's also just dropping hints for fun. In fact, we should be glad about that.

So maybe, just maybe, we should give the developers a chance before we call them names on Reddit. We might look at that comic book scene again next time, too, because you never know what you might find there.
