GTA 6: What's Myth and What's Reality?

From wild leaks to overhyped rumors, here's the latest round of GTA 6 drama.

GTA 6 hype has officially reached a fever pitch. There is a lot of speculation on the internet since it seems like every day there is a fresh "exclusive leak" or "insider tip" regarding Rockstar's next huge blockbuster. Some of it is true, and some of it is just rubbish.

One rumor that caught my eye is that 70% of the buildings in GTA 6 will be open to enter. Yes, you read that right, seventy percent. According to claims that surfaced in late 2023 and early 2024, allegedly from a TikTok comment by the son of a Rockstar North developer, players would soon be able to walk into most buildings scattered across the massive new map.

Forums, Reddit threads, and countless YouTube thumbnails ran wild with the number, screaming "70% CONFIRMED" in bright red letters with arrows pointing at the screen.

So, to put things into perspective, GTA 5, a game famous for its detail, had only about 50-60 actual interiors out of thousands of buildings. That's roughly 1 to 2%. Red Dead 2 did slightly better, but it still didn't even hit 10%. To make that big of a jump is crazy, even for Rockstar's standards.

Part of the confusion might come from Rockstar holding a patent for procedurally generated interiors.

While it's a great concept and could certainly allow for more shops, apartments, and restaurants, a patent doesn't automatically mean it'll be in the game. A more realistic figure for enterable buildings would be around 15-20%.

That still represents hundreds of interiors and would be a huge leap from GTA 5. Imagine every shop, a portion of apartments, some motels, and diners are all enough to make the world feel alive without making the devs never go home from work again. 70% makes a catchy headline; it's basically pure fantasy.

Another claim making the rounds is that Rockstar is secretly integrating ChatGPT into GTA 6. You could walk up to a random NPC on the street and have a fully dynamic conversation with them, almost like you're asking Siri (if that even works) for directions. It sounds fun, but it's also a little crazy.

This rumor mostly spread through Reddit and Twitter after Rockstar published patents about NPCs and AI navigation. Somewhere along the way, this got twisted into the belief that the game would feature full-scale language models controlling NPC dialogue.

The reality is that Rockstar is focusing on smarter NPCs that respond naturally to player actions, adapt their routes, and behave more like a natural city population.

These systems are exciting, but there's no evidence that ChatGPT or other large language models have been integrated. Even if Rockstar tried, the performance demands would be overwhelming, and moderation… let's not even go there. It'd be funny for content, sure, but it's not realistic for a AAA release.

"GTA 6 will include every major Rockstar map ever made, from Vice City to Liberty City, San Andreas, and Los Venturas," is the next myth on my list to debunk. Fans have speculated that the game could encompass the entire U.S., or at least a second hidden state, based on leaks under the code name Project Americas and some license plate sightings in screenshots.

The theory exploded online. People have spent hours dissecting screenshots, trying to find hidden clues, and some fans have even argued over whether a license plate's font indicates a secret city. It's fascinating but also a little exhausting to follow.

According to Rockstar, the game will feature Vice City and the state of Leonida, which we already knew from the two trailers.

There are swamps, beaches, and a buzzing nightlife that only Vice City can have. So again, there's no confirmation that Liberty City or San Andreas is playable. Expanding the map to multiple states at launch would require a shitton of resources and likely delay the game again.

However, credible reports suggest Rockstar may expand the map post-launch, adding new cities or even states over time. So Liberty City might show up eventually, but for now, it's safe to expect a focused world of Vice City and Leonida only.

The claim that GTA 6 is facing another delay is also something you must have seen quite often on the internet. Back in May 2025, Rockstar delayed the release from fall 2025 to May 2026. Rockstar (in classic Rockstar fashion) said the extra time was spent "polishing" the game.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has confirmed the May 26, 2026, release date and expressed strong confidence in it. Still, we can't completely rule out a delay, but all signs point towards May 26—at least until now, that is.

Pricing rumors have also caused panic online.

Some claims suggested GTA 6 could cost $150 or more, thanks to its record-breaking budget. Fans imagined Rockstar passing the full cost onto players upfront. In reality, Take-Two has said the game will be priced at the high end of premium entertainment, meaning around $70, with deluxe editions being a little more.

Considering how successful GTA 5 was at standard pricing, there's no reason Rockstar would price itself out of the market. They generate most of their revenue from online content like Shark Cards, so keeping the base game accessible makes more financial sense. The $150 price tag is just another example of online panic. Expect the usual $70, maybe $80, with optional deluxe editions for digital extras.

What all these rumors reveal is a mix of excitement and the classic internet urge to "leak" information.

Rockstar has given out minor but important facts that make things seem good, even when there are speculations. It's also important to note that the team working on the game is being cautious about when it will be released. Rockstar has learned from the mistakes of the past, notably RDR2, and the fact that they care more about polish than anything else demonstrates that they care more about quality. The May 26, 2026, date is a very calculated move by Rockstar, given the state the game's in.

Mark your calendars and maybe even step outside for some fresh air (or grass) while you wait. GTA 6 is going to be big. Really big. And when it finally lands, all the rumors will finally fly out the window.
