It looks like Insomniac Games has no plans to slow down. The studio is now looking at a much bigger universe, one full of mutants, powers, and possibilities, after shaking up the gaming world with Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and the upcoming Wolverine. There is now an official plan for the long-rumored Marvel's X-Men game, which is being described as a sort of sequel to the Wolverine film.
It is expected to be released in the 2030s and is anticipated to be one of the main games for the PlayStation 6 generation. This will be another big step forward for superhero games. Internal documents suggest that the X-Men game will feature a deep, story-driven single-player mode.

This game may feature more than one playable hero, which differs from the studio's other Marvel games. Wolverine, Jean Grey, Mystique, and Cyclops are all expected to be important characters. There are even rumors that players could control Magneto or Xavier in some missions. The idea of switching between heroes lets you play in a lot of different ways, like stealth missions with Mystique or explosive power sequences with Cyclops or Wolverine. Each level could have a different style of combat and story, giving fans a chance to see the X-Men world from various points of view.
The timing of this release is also not a coincidence. Sources indicate that Insomniac's X-Men game will be very similar to Marvel Studios' movie X-Men: The Last Stand, not X-Men: The Revival. This means that fans might be entering a golden age for mutant stories in movies and games.
And if the studio sticks to its usual pattern, we might even get some spin-offs in the future. If this project goes well, Gambit or Rogue could get their own game, just like Miles Morales and Venom came out of Spider-Man's world. Insomniac wants to tell stories that go way beyond the friendly neighborhood wall-crawler.
But there are more surprises to come. In addition to X-Men, Insomniac's development roadmap now includes a new IP that is still in the concept stage. Although the specifics of this project are not yet known, several ideas are circulating. It could be a new version of a classic game like Ratchet & Clank that people love, or it could be something completely new that pushes Insomniac's creativity to new heights.
However, there's also a chance that this new game will return to the Marvel universe. Fans are already dreaming about possible Daredevil or Doctor Strange games. The thought of a Daredevil game is inspiring. The timing couldn't be better, since the MCU's Daredevil: Born Again series was a hit, and fans are once again interested in darker, more realistic heroes like the Punisher. A single-player Daredevil game would add a gritty, street-level feel to Insomniac's superhero games.
His fighting style, which is based on speed and accuracy, could be as good as Batman's in the Arkham games. And since Insomniac is good at making tight, cinematic gameplay, this could easily become the next big hit. Even better, Punisher missions could take place in the same universe, opening up the possibility of another spin-off, similar to what Insomniac did with Miles Morales and Venom.
All signs point to the PlayStation 6 being a game-changing generation for gaming in the future. With significant improvements in graphics, AI behavior, and cloud computing, developers will be able to create worlds that feel more realistic than ever before. Imagine being able to converse with characters like Miles Morales or Wolverine, having environments that can be destroyed and respond in real-time, and having AI companions who remember your actions.
The jump in interactivity could change the way story-driven games are developed, and Insomniac is well-positioned to lead that change.

Sony has a lot of faith in Insomniac as its most dependable first-party studio. As many live-service projects have been quietly put on hold, the focus has shifted back to story-driven single-player games, which Insomniac excels at. The studio is creating a vast Marvel universe that connects all its movies, from Spider-Man to Wolverine to X-Men. Each story flows naturally into the next.
The next few years will be exciting, with Wolverine in 2026, Venom in 2027, Spider-Man 3 in 2028 or 2029, and finally, X-Men in the 2030s. If everything goes as planned, Insomniac's next ten years could change not only superhero games but also how studios create entire shared worlds for consoles.
Now the question is simple: which legend will Insomniac bring to life next? The X-Men, Daredevil, and a whole new generation of heroes are on the way.
