Nintendo September 2025 Direct Recap: Every Game Announced
Nintendo is back with another Direct; this time, they mean business as usual, but with some surprise drops here and there.
News by Warlord on Sep 12, 2025
Nintendo's rolling out events left and right nowadays. This Direct is a follow-up to the July Direct that did bring a lot of excitement but left a lot to be desired. Nintendo has answered our calls and gone above and beyond with a 60-minute action-packed showcase that showed every game from A to Z (not a Pokémon reference).
There's a whole "galaxy" of games not only for the Switch 2 but also for the Switch. Without much further ado, let's jump right in and unravel the Nintendo mania that we witnessed today. But wait! Before we begin, though, a slight mention has to be made of the Super Mario Galaxy movie that Nintendo has teased to kickstart the Direct.

The first trailer we received was not for a game, but rather for a movie that brought back the original gang of Mario, Princess Peach, Luigi, and Bowser, among others. The cast is back too, with Chris Pratt starring as Mario yet again alongside Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach and Charlie Day as Luigi.
Nintendo describes this as "the main event of the Mario 40th Anniversary celebration." Also, we assure you this is not going to be the last you'll see of Mario today.
Super Mario Galaxy & Super Mario Galaxy 2
To kick things off, it's a double announcement! Yes, a double announcement for the Super Mario Galaxy ports that are considered two of the very best 3D Mario games of all time: they are being remastered for the Switch and Switch 2 consoles. There's no word on whether you can buy them individually or not. For now, it looks like these two games are going to come in a bundle.
These two were initially Wii games, but for the new-look Super Mario Galaxy, Nintendo promises an improved UI. Not only that, but you also get the option to play with button-and-stick or motion controls according to your preference. There's Storybook content and much more. Most importantly, the Switch 2 will support 4k resolution.
If all that was not enough already, there are also going to be Super Mario Galaxy-themed Amiibo released in the form of Mario and Luma, and Rosalina and Lumas. They are also going to release a physical copy of Rosalina's Storybook.
Mario Tennis Fever
Lo and behold, a new Mario Tennis game that lets you serve up all sorts of action on the court. We have been told that there are going to be 38 playable characters alongside multiple game modes and even support for motion controls.
Mario Tennis Fever will introduce an array of new moves in slide and dive, and Fever Rackets, which include Wonder Effects from the game Super Mario Bros. Wonder. The game will launch on Switch 2 on February 12, 2026.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park
Yes, you heard that right! A Super Mario Bros. Wonder for the Switch 2, and it comes with new content in Bellabel Park. It will add all sorts of multiplayer content to the critically praised platformer.
You can team up or go against friends and family, and you collect the most coins to win through courses, with whoever has the most lives at the end winning. There's tag, Bob-omb relay, co-op, basically everything that makes you love Mario. Also, a Talking Flower that you can have in your home. The game's out in Spring 2026.
Yoshi and the Mysterious Book
This is the last game announced for the Mario 40th anniversary segment. It's a Yoshi game where a book falls from the sky with information about creatures, but the twist is that you can't see what's written down.
In comes Yoshi to investigate, and hence begins a 2D platforming journey starring Yoshi, which is set to launch on Switch 2 in Spring 2026.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
Finally! Samus is back with a motorcycle. We saw a new trailer for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. This is what fans have been wanting for so freaking long.
Samus is seen battling enemies across a desert landscape. There's a closer look at the first-person gameplay that we can do a whole separate news story on. But for now, just know that Nintendo is ending 2025 with a bang, as we can expect Metroid Prime 4: Beyond to be out on December 4. It doesn't end there, though, as we're getting some Amiibos as well as a commemorative book.
Pokémon Pokopia
This new Pokémon adventure looks like it's straight out of Stardew Valley, because it's not about battling Pokémon; rather, it looks like a world builder that focuses on a charming village more than fearsome Pokémon.
Right now, we don't know much, but a new Pokémon game is always welcome, especially when it takes the series in a direction we haven't seen before. What we do know now is that Pokémon Ditto is getting its own game, which is in development for a 2026 release on the Switch 2.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Mega Dimension
For some more Pokémon news, we've got a DLC announcement ahead of the Legends Z-A launch in October. It's finally time for a fresh look at Pokémon, and we have that in the form of a paid DLC.
It's the first of many DLCs to come for Legends Z-A, which shows an in-depth look at some of the battles and mega evolutions we can expect to see come October. There are rogue Pokémon to take down in boss battles, too.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment
This Legend of Zelda slash-'em-up is the next bombshell that Nintendo dropped. We could have guessed it was coming, but what we saw was a new trailer that showed the game from an angle never seen before.
We saw slight glimpses of the game's UI, and from the looks of things, it's a bona fide Warriors title. Zonai devices will be important for combat, bringing powerful elemental effects. Sync Strikes: another new feature allows you to team up for a strong attack. Also, split-screen co-op has been confirmed, too. Nintendo has announced a November 5 release date for the Switch 2.
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is living out its dream of a new-look Mii-powered playground. The characters created by you will live in the game world, but you have to make sure they get what they want and need. Nintendo's weird life simulator looks quirky enough for fans of the franchise to embrace its return.
The game's eyeing a Spring 2026 release on Nintendo Switch. Amongst all the A-listers in today's Direct, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream still managed to leave a mark with its charming setting that deserved an honorable mention.
Donkey Kong Bonanza: DK Island & Emerald Rush DLC
If you've finished the main campaign, this announcement is great news for you. Void King will offer you a role in his ranks now.
The Emerald Rush lets you beat the emerald quota within a time limit and then move on to the next round. Collecting fossils will grant you perks. They reset after each run, but the fossil and Banandium locations stay the same.
Emerald Rush can be played in older worlds as well. DK Island & Emerald Rush will be out later today. Keep in mind, though, it's a paid DLC, but one that looked worthy of splashing out on. Additionally, a free demo will be available later tonight.

Hades II
It's of little to no surprise that the Hades II title is Switch 2-bound, considering the massive popularity of its predecessor. In short, it's a 3D anime fighting game that's got a lot of heart to offer. A frantic trailer was shown, revealing some of the powerful combos you can pull off with weapons and magic.
Since May 2024, the game's been in Early Access on PC, but now it's finally headed toward the Switch platform on September 25 of this year.
Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake
It's a classic return! Fatal Frame II is back and looking better than ever. It looks gorgeous with modern graphics that truly bring out the best of its creepy setting.
The game will once again let you use the power of Camera Obscura, which will help you put restless spirits to rest. The game will also tweak combat and exploration up a notch. Koei Temco's horror series makes a long-awaited return, now to the Switch 2 in early 2026.
Dragon Quest VII Reimagined
Classics galore! A remake of the 2000 game launched on the PlayStation, Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past is now set to come back, as the title of the game suggests: reimagined.
The game follows the story of a young hero from the island of Estard, along with his friends Kiefer and Maribel. You discover ancient ruins that unlock the ability to travel to lost continents of the past. If you're familiar with the game, this is enough to get you back in. As for the newbies, we won't spoil you any further. You'll have to play the game yourself on February 5, 2026, on the Switch and Switch 2.
Resident Evil Requiem
A new trailer for Resident Evil Requiem was shown. We follow Grace Ashcroft getting a phone call and then being hung up on. She then investigates strange deaths before finding herself in a haunted house. That's all we saw for now.
As for more Resident Evil news, we also have Capcom bringing Switch 2 versions of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village. All of these games land on the Switch 2 on February 27, 2026.
Virtual Boy
This one's not just one game. But a collection of games that we are going to see on the Switch consoles. There's even going to be a Virtual Boy headset that you can purchase and insert your Switch console into to replicate the original Virtual console.
The Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass is adding another platform to the Nintendo Classics, and it's launching on February 17, 2026.
Kirby Air Riders
Some quick news for Kirby Air Riders: another Direct for the game has been announced, alongside Amiibo figures you can collect once the game is out.
Also, the Nintendo Today app will get a Kirby theme tonight with updates on the game being available there.

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave
To conclude today's direct, Nintendo dropped the all-new Fire Emblem game, which we've all been dying for. It's a new entry to Intelligent Systems' tactical RPG series.
The trailer showed the beginning of the Heroic Games, where our protagonist, Cai, fights to save his father's life. It's a strategy game that blends a heavy emotional touch into it. The game's got a major ancient Rome influence, and it would be interesting to see what it brings when it comes to life on the Switch 2 in 2026.
That pretty much wraps up all the major announcements for this year's last Nintendo Direct. However, there are still a lot of games for Switch and Switch 2 to be released that are listed below with their respective release dates:
