Nintendo has finally shown fans a real look at The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, and it’s clear this is more than just a visual update. The remake keeps the core of the 1998 Nintendo 64 classic but adds several improvements to make Link’s adventure feel smoother on today’s hardware.

One of the biggest changes is the camera. In the original Ocarina of Time, the camera was mostly fixed and used Z-targeting, which can feel awkward now. The remake lets you control the camera directly with the right stick, making it easier to look around and play.

Movement has also been updated.

Now, you can make Link jump whenever you want by pressing a button, instead of only jumping automatically at certain ledges. This is a big change, since the original game never let players control jumping directly. The remake also makes Link’s movement better overall.

Instead of rolling over and over to move faster, you can now start sprinting after a roll and keep moving quickly in a more natural way. Swimming is better too, giving Link more ways to get around while exploring. Nintendo is also making it easier to know what to do next.

The new Threads of Fate system tracks important events and tasks, so you have a clearer idea of where to go. This should help players follow the story while still keeping the sense of exploration that made the original memorable. Another big change is the addition of fully voiced cutscenes.

Now, characters speak during important scenes, though Link is still mostly silent. Nintendo has also added more lines for some characters, giving them more personality than before. The visual upgrade is just as important. Nintendo has updated the game with new textures, improved character details, smoother animations, and an overall more modern look.

The Ocarina of Time Remake also has improved sound and orchestral music.

Even with all these updates, Nintendo seems focused on keeping the spirit of the original adventure. The layouts and story are still familiar, and the new features mostly fix parts of the 1998 game that feel old now. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake is set to launch only on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026.

For longtime fans, the main question is whether these changes balance nostalgia and new features. So far, the remake seems to make one of Nintendo’s most important games easier to enjoy, while keeping what made it special.
