SNK Brings Fatal Fury and Metal Slug to Nintendo Switch 2 With Two Major Releases

Nintendo Switch 2 is getting two major SNK releases, with Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves and Metal Slug Ultimate Collection both heading to Nintendo platforms. Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves will bring SNK’s latest fighting game to Switch 2, while the Metal Slug collection will be available on both the original Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. 

The announcements give fans of SNK’s fighting and arcade games two very different experiences to look forward to. Both games also bring plenty of content, with Fatal Fury continuing to receive updates and Metal Slug combining several classic entries into one package.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves originally launched on other platforms in 2025 and has continued receiving updates since its release. 

The fighting game has added new characters, challenges, and other content, while tournaments have also continued to take place around the game. That ongoing support gives the Switch 2 version a fairly substantial foundation rather than making it a simple port of an older release. 

The game also stands out because of its visual style, which uses a detailed look that resembles comic-book artwork. Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves has a distinct presentation that helps separate it from some of the other fighting games available today.

The collection is planned for 2027 and brings together a large selection of games from the classic run-and-gun franchise. Instead of focusing on one particular entry, the collection is designed to give players access to a broad portion of Metal Slug’s history in a single package. 

The collection includes Metal Slug, Metal Slug 2, Metal Slug X, Metal Slug 3, Metal Slug 4, Metal Slug 5, Metal Slug Advance, Metal Slug 6, and Metal Slug 7. It also includes the Metal Slug Location Test Version, which is being released as part of the collection for the first time. 

That gives the package an important historical component because players will not simply be getting the familiar commercial releases. The inclusion of the location test version gives fans a chance to experience material that has not previously been widely available as part of a standard Metal Slug collection.

SNK is also adding several quality-of-life features to make these older arcade games easier to play today. Quick save, quick load, and rewind options will be available, giving players more control over how they approach the notoriously challenging arcade-style gameplay. 

There will also be score attack and time attack modes for players who want to focus on their performance in the collection. A Combat School mode will also be included, providing an additional way for newcomers to learn how Metal Slug plays.

Online rankings will give players another reason to return to the collection after completing the individual games. 

High-score leaderboards can add a competitive element to the classic arcade experience, particularly for players who enjoy trying to improve their performance rather than simply reaching the end of a game. 

The collection will also include a gallery and museum containing visual materials, logos, and other historical content connected to the games. These features give the package more value beyond simply placing several older titles together.

Metal Slug has remained one of SNK’s most recognizable run-and-gun franchises since its arcade debut. Its gameplay revolves around fast movement, shooting, vehicles, weapons, enemies, and large bosses, with each entry offering its own locations and gameplay situations.
