“Cover the Escape” is one of the Quests of Doom: The Dark Ages, and a hidden key is required to finish it. Use this guide to find the key necessary for progress. If you know your way, the route is simple, but be ready to defeat numerous enemies. Keep your weapons ready, especially your power gauntlet and shield bash—they will be extremely helpful.

Finding the Combat Zone

Head first into the sloping down section to your left. You require a path that leads downwards. As you follow this path, prepare to encounter many enemies in Doom: The Dark Ages. This part of the game is fully combat-centered, so be prepared for waves of enemies. Your power gauntlet and shield bash are the key to easily defeating these enemies. Beware of your surroundings, since the enemies will attack everywhere, and you need to move constantly while you shoot. Fortunately, they're not tough to kill, just plentiful. If you need to heal, you can pull back slightly to get some armor and other helpful supplies stashed behind you.

Going to the lower Levels

After you have killed all the enemies in Doom: The Dark Ages, you’ll see a glowing door, indicating that it’s breakable. Break this and move forward, leading you to the lower levels. Run forward until you are in an area where a green surge-attack hits you. You must parry this green surge with appropriate controls to avoid getting hit. You’ll find a ladder to the left of the path, which you must climb to get to the upper levels. Moving forward, you'll find another wave of enemies you must kill. You should parry their attacks since they will hit you with the green surge. Just stand before them and raise your shield at the correct time to parry. Perfect the timing; hitting them with weapons or melee will kill them easily.

If you are low on health, heal before going to the next section, since there’ll be a mini-boss fight before you find the key.

Entering the Church

If you head south, you’ll have to do a mini-boss fight. The boss is a bit fast and will hit you if you are not constantly moving. You will have to knock him over with some glory hits or use your weapons, and also parry his surge attack with your shield.

Jump into the church building after killing the mini-boss in Doom: The Dark Ages. You will find a group of cultists in the Church. Kill the cultists and move forward. You’ll see the commander's dead body in front of the big statue inside the church. Pick up the key that is just beside the commander's dead body to complete the quest.
