Doom: The Dark Ages Guide | How To Get To The Battlefield In 'Defend the City'

To begin your path toward the battlefield in the "Defend the City" mission in Doom: The Dark Ages, you start off in the main area.

Exiting the Starting Area

As you head out, locate the bridge to your right. You'll notice defensive positions set up around it.

While moving through this part of the map, it's entertaining to hear what people are saying about the Slayer as you pass by—some amusing little comments and bits of world-building dialogue.

Opening the Gate and Moving Through the District

Once you've crossed the bridge, run to the left. You'll encounter a locked gate that you need to open. To do this, simply throw your shield at the gate.

It's a small but satisfying interaction. After unlocking the gate, continue onward. You'll find yourself running through an area that feels like a core district.

Along the way, you'll hear dialogue about energy production being down and comments suggesting that this is someone's district and that they'd be executed if they left—just some atmospheric chatter as you move forward.

Collecting the Weapon Drop

Go straight ahead, then turn left to get to the next part. At this spot, a weapon drop is ready for you. When you open it, you'll get the flail, which is a great fighting weapon.

The flail can now be used as your main close-range weapon after you get it. This item is strong and changes the way battles feel, giving you an edge in battle.

Reaching the Battlefield

After collecting your new weapon, keep moving forward, and you'll arrive at the battlefield. That completes the objective of reaching the battlefield in the "Defend the City" mission.

This area sets the stage for the next big fight in your journey through Doom: The Dark Ages.
