Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Guide | How to Evolve Gimmighoul into Gholdengo
Evolve Gimmighoul by leveling it to Level 38 while holding 999 Gimmighoul Coins.
Game Guide by Monarch on Feb 25, 2026
Gholdengo is one of the most unique evolutions in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. It does not evolve through a stone or a trade. It evolves when you meet two requirements simultaneously. You need the right level and enough Gimmighoul coins.
The Two Requirements You Must Meet
To evolve Gimmighoul into Gholdengo, you must get Gimmighoul to Level 38. You also must collect 999 Gimmighoul Coins. If you do not have 999 coins yet, the evolution will not happen, even if the level is correct. If you have the coins but the level is too low, it won't work either.

How To Farm Gimmighoul Coins Fast
Coins come from different sources, but the quickest method is battling the chest form, Gimmighoul Chest Form. Each time you beat one of these chests, you get 50 coins. That means you can reach 999 much faster than it sounds.
You can also find more Gimmighoul around the world. They hide behind signs, sit in corners of areas, and appear in ruins. They are spread all over the map, so you can keep collecting coins while you explore.

The Best Places To Check For Respawns
A strong place to farm is Watchtowers. Watchtowers are all over the map, and many are near fast travel points. If you have not visited a certain watchtower in a while, Gimmighoul can respawn there. If you feel stuck, move to a watchtower you have not checked recently and look for another chest to battle.

Level Up Gimmighoul Quickly
Once your coin count is close to 999, focus on reaching Level 38. If your Gimmighoul is underleveled, you can level it quickly using Exp. Candies. Give it enough candy to hit the level requirement, then check if your coins are already at 999.
Trigger The Evolution Into Gholdengo
After you have 999 Gimmighoul Coins and your Gimmighoul reaches Level 38, the evolution triggers, and Gimmighoul becomes Gholdengo. If it does not evolve right away, the most common reason is that one requirement is still missing, usually the coin total.
