Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Guide | How to Find Sunkern and Evolve Into Sunflora
Catch Sunkern fast near town, then use a Sun Stone to evolve it into Sunflora.
Game Guide by Monarch on Feb 25, 2026
Sunkern is a small, easy-to-miss Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, but you can find it quickly once you know the right area to search. It also has a simple evolution method.
You only need one item, and the evolution happens instantly once you use it. This makes it a quick Pokédex entry and a nice early pickup if you like Grass types.
Best Location To Find Sunkern
One of the easiest places to find Sunkern is just to the left of the town shown on the route. Sunkern can appear throughout this general area, so you do not need an exact spot. Move through the nearby fields and keep scanning the ground as you travel.
Sunkern likes being near flowers, according to the Pokédex note. That doesn't always mean it only grows in flower patches, but it's still a good idea to look in places close to flowers. You should be able to find one faster if you switch between open grass and flower groups.

Catch Sunkern Quickly
When you see Sunkern, start the encounter and catch it like any other wild Pokémon. It is small, so it can blend into the terrain. Keep the camera slightly angled down as you move so you do not walk past it.
What You Need To Evolve Sunkern
To evolve Sunkern into Sunflora, you need a Sun Stone. This evolution does not require leveling up. It is item-based, so you can do it as soon as you have the stone. The Sun Stone is in your bag, under the Candies section, as shown in the route.
There may not be many of these stones available, especially later on, so it is worth using one carefully when you are ready to evolve.
How To Evolve Into Sunflora
Open your bag, go to the Candies section, and select the Sun Stone. Use it on Sunkern, and the evolution starts right away.

After the short evolution animation, Sunkern becomes Sunflora, and you are done.
