Version 6.0.0 is the largest software update for the PlayStation Portal to date. It adds long-awaited cloud streaming for titles you already own. This update lets players stream some of the games they own from the PlayStation Store straight through the cloud. This makes the Portal much more useful and makes it an even better gaming device.

Cloud Streaming for Owned Games
The best thing about this update is that you can now play games you own digitally through cloud streaming. You may now play games you bought from the PlayStation Store straight on the Portal without having to use a PlayStation 5 to do it. The cloud streaming experience mirrors the previous beta version in performance, running smoothly with minimal lag or issues.
Navigation has also been improved. You can connect to your PlayStation 5 via remote play as usual, or use the R1 and L1 buttons to switch between cloud streaming and remote play. A newly added search feature allows you to quickly check your library for streamable games or purchase titles available for cloud play.
Testing Performance Across Game Genres
We tested the update with a variety of games to evaluate performance. God of War Ragnarok streamed flawlessly, performing the same as it did during the beta. Fighting games like Mortal Kombat 1 and King of Fighters 15 also ran smoothly, demonstrating the Portal's ability to handle fast-paced action.
Shoot 'em ups, like Signney All Guns Blazing, also performed perfectly with no noticeable lag or screen tearing. Racing games such as Dirt 5 were enjoyable. However, high-action scenes showed slight graininess, suggesting that higher bit-rate customization would be beneficial for future updates.
Network Performance and Latency
The Portal's network troubleshooting feature allows you to check connection strength and performance metrics. The Portal said that during testing, the signal strength was medium, the resolution was 1080p, and the latency was roughly 25–30ms.
This may affect competitive first-person shooter performance, but it didn't seem to affect single-player or racing games much. There was no frame corruption, downstream loss, or upstream loss, which showed that the streaming was stable.

Free-to-Play Games and Cloud Streaming
Free-to-play titles like Fall Guys also run perfectly through cloud streaming. However, a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription is required to access the full cloud game catalog. If you own a PlayStation 5, you can still play these games via remote play at no additional cost.
First-Person Shooters
Even first-person shooters like Doom Eternal streamed effectively. While the smaller sticks on the Portal may challenge competitive play, the on-screen quality was excellent, and the experience was fully playable. For FPS enthusiasts, thumb grips can improve control and make gameplay more comfortable.
Accessibility, Audio, and Security Updates
This version also includes several accessibility improvements, such as the ability to adjust text size and the addition of a screen reader for cloud-streamed games. There are now three major tabs for remote play, cloud streaming, and game search, along with a handy side dashboard accessible by pressing the PlayStation button.
3D audio support has been added for Pulse Elite and Explorer earbuds, enhancing wireless audio performance with zero noticeable lag. For security, users can now set a passcode to protect the Portal from unauthorized access, which is especially useful if taking the device on the go.
Library Size and Game Availability
The number of streamable owned games is currently around 2,800. However, some notable titles, such as EA's Call of Duty and Battlefield games, are missing. The update also includes a variety of free-to-play games, expanding the range of titles accessible via cloud streaming.
Final Thoughts
With the PlayStation Portal version 6.0.0, you can now stream your owned games from the cloud, use a better search function, have a better user interface, and have 3D audio support. Competitive first-person shooter players might notice some lag, but most people will find the experience seamless and fun.
The upgrade is a big step toward making the PlayStation Portal a more useful, easier-to-use device for gaming on the road.
