Bonds in Star Wars Zero Company allow pairs of Operators to develop unique relationships, unlocking training rewards, Focus Points, and powerful Special Passive abilities.

How Bonds Work

Open Personnel and select Bonds to view your Operators' relationships. Each pair develops its Bond separately, so improving one relationship doesn't automatically improve another.

For example, developing Cab's relationship with Jay will not increase Hawk's relationship with Trick. You should therefore decide which Operator pairs you want to develop before deploying them.

As a pair's Bond Level increases, they unlock Focus Points and Cross Training choices. Training rewards apply to both Operators, and ordinary training bonuses remain with them even if you later split the pair.

Bond Training Rewards

Whenever a pair reaches a new Bond Level, you can choose from available training rewards. These can provide bonuses to things such as:

  • Health
  • Accuracy
  • Critical damage
  • Movement
  • Assist damage
  • Attack-specific bonuses
  • Focus Points
  • Bond XP

The best choice depends on how you use both Operators. A movement bonus can be valuable for a melee-focused Operator, while assist damage is more useful for pairs that frequently trigger assists.

Don't simply choose the reward with the biggest number. Consider how often both Operators can actually benefit from it.

Focus Points and Bond XP are also worth considering. Focus Points can help you reach an important ability upgrade, while Bond XP can accelerate the relationship toward a stronger reward.

Maximum Bond Level and Special Passives

When a pair reaches the maximum Bond Level (Level 8), they can choose a Special Passive. These rewards depend on the Operators' primary specializations, so not every pair will have access to the same choices.

Examples include:

  • Medic: Med Packs can remove negative status effects.
  • Astromech: Utility items deal additional damage.
  • Warrior: Can provide immunity to effects such as Shock and Burn.
  • Padawan: Can remove a stack of Resonance when performing a damaging melee attack.

Both Operators receive the selected Special Passive.

To get another Special Passive, you need to develop a different partnership to maximum Bond Level. An Operator can collect multiple Special Passives from the same class, while passives you already own will no longer appear as later choices.

How to Increase Bond XP

Bond XP comes from several mission activities. The most reliable combat methods include:

Backup: A Backup request provides Bond XP, with up to two awards per pair.

Healing and support: Qualifying healing, Stim, and AP-support actions provide Bond XP, subject to the pair's interaction allowance.

Mission completion: Completing a mission provides additional Bond XP.

A typical example can provide 20 XP from Backup, 20 XP from supporting an ally, and 30 XP from completing the mission, for 70 XP total.

The support allowance is shared across the pair's qualifying interactions, so repeatedly switching abilities or reversing the Operator order doesn't create a new allowance.

How to Farm Bond XP Efficiently

If you want to develop a specific pair during a mission, use Backup twice, then fill their available support interactions with inexpensive actions.

Healing and buffing each other can be an easy way to build Bond XP while also helping your squad survive.

However, don't push risky missions to gain extra Bond XP. For a normal campaign playthrough, build the relationships between Operators you actually use together.

You can also improve relationships through Operations, conversations, dilemmas, and Lounge upgrades. Lounge progression is particularly useful for developing reserve Operators without using combat actions.

Bond Changes From Decisions

Some story decisions, companion missions, and dilemmas can increase one relationship while decreasing another.

If a decision lowers a Bond Level, recovering that relationship later does not necessarily give you another Focus Point or training reward. Previously unlocked ordinary training bonuses also remain intact.

Because of this, focus your Bond development on the Operator combinations you actually want to use.

Final Thoughts

Bonds are an important part of developing your squad in Star Wars Zero Company. Choose training rewards based on how both Operators play, use Backup and support actions to build Bond XP, and prioritize relationships that you regularly use together.

Reaching maximum Bond Level can also unlock powerful Special Passives, making it worth developing your Operator relationships throughout the campaign.
